Dave Lay
« on: August 22, 2022, 07:15:28 PM »
Dave Lay a hero of mine and one of the finest men to ever hunt the woods with a traditional bow, passed away Saturday.
Dave was a humble, but an honest to goodness man in a world lacking real men.
He did everything with integrity and heart and anyone that knew Dave is better from it.
Dave will be greatly missed by his family and his friends.

Prayers sent for his family and friends.
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

This is such a tragedy. I am dumbfounded and heartbroken.

I never met Dave but we have stayed in touch pretty regularly for 10 years or more. I invited him to my place to hunt last year and at the last moment he had to cancel due to some pain in his hip.

We have stayed in touch all this year; planning the hunt for this year. I knew he had some medical issues that he was working through. Just last week I texted him that he hadn't posted for a couple of weeks and was everything good? He said it was. He was showing me his new recurve that he traded for his longbow... and then we were trying to nail down which week this year would be best to come down. He said he was going to have to pass in November as that was when his hunting areas were best; but was going to try to come in December during our rut. I told him even that if the hunting didn't work out, we could swap some lies, grill some steaks, and generally just have a good time getting to know each other better.

I guess he just didn't want to tell me. Thoughts and prayers to his family. I'm going to really miss Dave...more than anyone I never met.

I can't believe this...or at least I don't want to believe it. I "met" Dave on here back in 2004. Being roughly the same age and both of us being lefties we hit it right off. Last month he reached out to me about a recurve he was thinking of trading his longbow for. We both said that since we were both retired, we needed to get together and chase some deer here in Indiana and then I needed to come out and chase bear with him. We never met in person, but I considered him to be my friend. We've lost a great one. Prayers sent to the family and loved ones. Rest in Peace my friend...you are missed.

Condolences to family and friends
It's really simple. Just don't take those borderline shots. Tomorrow is another day.
