Bart Schleyer passed on this day in 2004 Reid Lake Yukon on a solo hunt.  Companion of Paul Schafer.

Because of this thread I read again some accounts of Bart Schleyer's life and unsolved death.  A pretty amazing fellow to say the least.  The reports that bear ripped clothing wasn't found makes it implausible to me that a bear killed Mr. Schleyer. 

Articles also mentioned the Treadwell and girlfriend deaths by bear.

I listened to a recording of that Treadwell killing.  I have NEVER listened to something that disturbed me more than that recording. In fact, I've never seen anything, real or in the movies that bothered me more.  I regretted for many days having listened.  I don't recommend it for anyone.

I seem to recall that Bart's clothing was found folded in a pile.  That doesn't sound like a bear attack.   We'll probably never know for sure.  There was speculation that it might be related to his time as a scientist/biologist in Russia.

I can second this advice. I had no idea an audio recording could haunt me like this one did. Bart seemed to be an incredible outdoorsman but even the most experienced can make mistakes.

I met Bart in the mid 90’s. I was coming off a mountain with a dall sheep. He gave me a ride home. Did a lot of talking during that time. Was shocked when I first heard of his death.

Eaten by a Grizzly Bear, bears don't kill you and eat you, they eat you while you are alive, and you die in the process.
 There's actually audio online of a guy being eaten alive by a Grizzly, I won't point you to it, but you need to find it and hear it and then talk about not a better way to go.
Bart was one of the greatest hunters, outdoorsmen and conservationists that have ever been, it is my hope that he passed mercifully early in his encounter.

I’d suggest , as interesting as it may sound , that no one listen to that Audio as described above. It’s quite horrific.
I genuinely wish I’d never listened , and couldn’t turn it off quick enough.
