Second Wind

So I'm not sure what happened to my thread about burn out, hopefully I didn't offend anyone as I was relating something very real to me. I really just wanted to say thank you to the positive responses and I am intending to do whatever I can to get out there this week, even if I wake up late or just put in a couple of hours. Thank you again and I apologize if anyone found it offensive in any way although I can't see how.

I don't think it's about being offensive but that it was a growing negativity that isn't gonna do anyone any good.
I know misery loves company but it doesn't change anything when we let things pull us down.  No things aren't gonna always be the same.  I know my time shooting a trad bow is limited because old injuries will someday sideline me.  But I love the outdoors.  I'll be fishing, trapping racoons, squirrel hunting, etc.
I played softball until I was almost 50.  I love playing the game.  Have since little league as a kid.    It hurt to give up.  But I still smile about the memories every time I pass the ball park and watch the young fellas out there getting it.
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

Are we friends or just a bunch of people who are interested in traditional bowhunting?  If we’re friends, we need to stick by each other through good times and bad.  Nothing that I can see wrong with the post you made, Pete.

In March of 2007 they found a 95%+ blockage in my LAD.  After almost two hours on the cath lab table they had gotten in a stent and worked on several other blood vessels as well.  The next morning the Doc told me if I didn't strictly follow his instructions I probably wouldn't live to see Christmas.
It stunk because it meant no meat.  Had to read labels, low fat and low carb.  The biggest issue though was my ego.  All I worried about was survival the last seven years of my career so when I died, my wife would get the full survivor benefits.  So worried about dying I stopped living.  Work and home.
We learned to cook healthy, exercise a little and I survived it.  But I quit fishing with my friends and everything.
My good friend tried to encourage me.  Call me early on tournament mornings to wake me. I always made an excuse.  Then one morning he called at 5am and gave me an ear full.  I hung up and lay there stewing.  At 7:30 he called and said his boat had broken down in the river and he needed my help.
So I hooked up and went out there.  When I got there his boat was tied off on shore upriver from the lake.  He jumped on my boat with his gear and insisted we fish together and come get his boat later.
We had a good day.  We both took a check that day but even more important we laughed and talked about what a Debbie downer I'd become. I shared my worry with him, we prayed together.
Later, just before weigh in he had me take him to his boat.  As he took off down river toward the ramp and weigh in I was instantly aware there was never anything wrong with his boat.  He was just a good friend giving me a swift kick in the ass to jump start me.
McDave if we are friends, someone should be willing to step up and be blunt.  To let the one feeling down know they need to quit complaining and find an alternative if there isn't a solution.
The truth is something that isn't always easy to swallow.  But you can't escape it.

Agreed.  I didn't see anything wrong with the post.  Maybe I missed something though.  I can't tell because it's been removed for some reason.

Maybe try contacting administration or Terry?

We don't have any way of knowing why it was deleted. I didn't see anything wrong with it and I posted to it. Personally, I'm slightly wounded when I put time and effort into composing a post and it just disappears.

I keep telling myself to limit these posts to one or two lines.

Well who would of guessed that on the day I forced myself to get out, I saw more deer in one day than I have seen in the last three years combined. Even had 2 not one but 2 8 point bucks bedded 20 yards from my car, ridiculous. I think next time I might just sit by the car, crazy but beautiful to see

I saw nothing wrong with your first post either.
Someone must have though, because shortly after it was pulled Terry made a big post about how if people are feeling burned out on hunting or shooting not to come whining about it here and there was a place for them to go instead (I won't repeat that part). I found that a bit odd to turn on a member so harshly when they were coming here looking for help.

That post got pulled very quickly and was gone when I checked back a few minutes later. I see absolutely nothing wrong with getting burnt out, I think we all do at some point or another for an invariable amount of time. Whether it's shooting or hunting or whatever, sometimes a break is just needed. I just got back from a week long trip in nebraska where I hunted dawn till dark every single day for 7 days straight. Even though it's deer season in Michigan now, I'm not super motivated to get out just yet. That motivation will come back in a week or so, just need to ease up for a bit and then get back to it. You're desire to shoot will come back so don't worry about it too much.

No man is required to explain his reasons for hunting or for his decision to step back.  As time goes by, a lot of guys have to slow down. Interest wanes for many reasons. In 3 days I will turn 73, and I must admit I just don't have the same level of drive I used to. My health is not as good. Constant fatigue, decreased sense of balance and less physical strength are part of the reasons I don't get out like I used to. A lot of guys I know have retained their physical and emotional drive to hunt far better than I have, which is great. However, since you are trying to get out a little more, good luck. Hunt till you get tired of it then go back to the house. If anybody got offended by your decision to hunt less, don't worry about it. Remember, we all go out with our bows to have fun. That is the primary reason we go, and only the individual can determine what is right. May your second wind fill your freezer.

I think it's gotta be tough being THE administrator for a forum.
Sometimes it's easy for someone to be off key about things they may not normally be if they happen to have a very difficult life situation they are dealing with.  Try looking at someone's post history sometimes and it may give you some insight.
Sometimes I, who have no forum responsibilities, often type, retype, then trash a post because I know I'm typing it not in the right mindset or other reasons.
I didn't always to do that but experience has shown me many times I don't necessarily see what others read into or out of what I type.
Even folks who know me fairly well sometimes wonder.
I learned a long time ago not to question when a thread disappeared because I or my comments may be the reason it was pulled.

The owner of a forum can, of course, do things as he pleases. The owner doesn't even need to follow any rules or be consistent.

Once upon a time I was a moderator for a HUGE forum. There was a single owner but given the size of the board there were a bunch of moderators. The "rules" seemed a lot more formal there and we tried hard to be consistent in  their enforcement. Anytime a thread, post or member was deleted we ALWAYS provided an explanation to interested parties, other mods and the boss. As moderators we were held accountable for following the rules ourselves. As in any other kind of supervision consistency is all important for maintaining credibility.

That's not to say that we didn't make mistakes and we had some pretty heated discussions in the back room (the moderators forum).
