A nostalgia hunt
« on: October 14, 2022, 03:58:10 PM »
Last weekend I spent up in the Catskills hunting places that I’ve been hunting for over 40 years. Sitting on stand, I couldn’t help but to reflect on my life hunting this mountain. From turkeys, to grouse, to deer. The property still tells stories from long ago, with stone walls and old wooden tree stands. Last Saturday afternoon I decided to use my original Black Widow SA II that I ordered from Ken Beck in 1995. I hunted with that bow exclusively for 14 years until I sold it to my good buddy and TG member TonyZ. He was the only one who I’d sell that bow to, as I did so to bring him into the world of traditional archery. He had great success with that bow as I had before. Having other bows he decided to sell it back to me last year.
So sitting my afternoon stand I was enjoying the show that a doe and her two fawns we’re putting on for me. Then a little spike horn hung out for close to an hour getting as close as the base of my tree would allow. While taking some cell phone footage of him a lone doe came right down a trail giving me a perfect quartering away shot at about 10 yards. I drew and released hitting the doe in tbe middle of her rib cage burying the broadhead in her opposite shoulder. She ran a big 100 yard circle before expiring about 50 yards from my tree stand. It was the perfect end to a perfect evening.

Sounds like another great memory to reflect back on in years to come.  Congratulations!
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

That's cool. Congrats!
It's really simple. Just don't take those borderline shots. Tomorrow is another day.

thank you. It seems that a lot of the year and a half old deer in the area have that pattern.
