Measured along curves on back , take off 3" for long bow and 3.5 " for recurves.  Kinda a poke and hope because there are few that match AMO.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

What Kenny said but be ready to make a couple:)

I measure from string groove to string groove then subtract 3 inches for my longbow.

Kenny's got the formula    If you are making Flem-twist strings, you get a little length adjustment with the twist.

Actually.... It depends on your limb design. All of my bows are only 2" -2.5" less than AMO bow length. But... i have some serious preload built into my designs.

Soooooo..... You might want to play with a bit longer string and see how it treats you. Lower brace heights typically give you higher string tension at brace, and better performance....

Your question about "long bows" and "Recurve bows" and best string length, is a lot like asking about what size tires are best for Cars & trucks.     Kirk

The key to fine tuning a design is getting the limbs with just the right amount of preload, then measure back to the riser to lay out your grip location. I try and keep mine at about 7 to 7.5" brace with just the right preload..... You'll figure it out....   Kirk
