Mohawk longbow
« on: February 01, 2023, 07:06:45 PM »
I’ve never had a bow that I’ve enjoyed more than my Mohawk longbow.  Well problem is it has gone to bow heaven and I don’t think Mohawk is in business anymore?  What would be another maker that makes a longbow similar to the Mohawk?  Sorry it’s been a while friends.

Vince stopped his Mohawk Bows business a few years back.

I know how ya feel, I could use another Sparrowhawk myself!

I've got a couple of them and they are great bows. I am shooting another bow right now that I had my bowyer match the grip from my Mohawk. If you can't find a replacement I would recommend contacting Mike at Wild Horse Creek bows.  Look at his Destiny.

The Mohawk Sparrowhawk was my design that I brought to Vince and he created it for me, and subsequently for others.

The Sparrowhawk uses 5 limb laminations instead of 4, and the limb widths are narrower than the Mohawk and most other longbows.  The prototype used tempered bamboo (as Hill used for all his bows) and no outer limb veneers.  The limb glass is always clear.

Honestly I don’t know.  I purchased it I’m guess 15-20 years ago.  I called Vince and said build me a bow.  I sent him $500 and a month later I had a bow lol.  I believe it was a 62” 47@28”.  Looking for a 40 pounder now cuz I’m getting old lol

Yes.  I have thought about an Oneida but I don’t think that bow gives that much more speed as a guy would think.  Longbow is so smooth and quiet plus weighs nothing.

As an aside, do not confuse the Bodnik Mohawk longbows or the Crow's Head Mohawk longbows with Vince's Mohawk Longbows - totally different bows.

Dave I am leaning toward your Mohawk was probably his original Mohawk.Since you said it was like 15 or 20 years ago.Maybe Rob knows when the Sparrowhawk was introduced. The original Mohawk was a very nice bow as you know.

Anyway since your looking for something similar in that general style of bow I would look at bowyers websites who might build the mild R&D that strings into the classic D shape .Bowyers do make them. Not all.But you will find some that do.

A few that I have had are still being made. The Great Northern Critter Gitter,Dwyer Original Longbow,Wild horse Creek Destiny,St Patrick Lake longbows.J.D Berry might make one possibly? He used to make a few models like that.Thier are others for sure.Check the Sponsers list on T-Gang and look around at websites.
