Selfbow Moose at the Top of the Page
« on: February 02, 2023, 09:36:54 AM »
Looks like a picture of my 2021 selfbow moose made the top the page, here is the link to the recounting of the adventure for those who want to read about it:

The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Enjoyed the story.  Impressed with your selfbow results.  Thanks for bringing this story to me.

Way to go, Walt and way to show the effectiveness of the lowly selfbow.  :notworthy:

Pat,

Thanks, much appreciated.

As you know, there is nothing ineffective about using a selfbow. There is not much technical difference in glass bows and a selfbow when taking a moose, or when taking a whitetail.  To paraphrase TimO: Dead is dead, the critter don’t much care if the arrow was going 180-200 feet per second or 150 fps.

My opinion: All bowhunting comes down to one’s woodsmanship skills.  Having the skills, fortitude, and confidence, in one's self to live in and feel comfortable with their environment, wherever that might be.  For me, the comfort zone includes the Alaskan bush/wilderness.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Figured you or Rob were responsible.

I’m headed back to Alaska this September, though not solo.  Hunter is going with me.  He claimed that at 65 (next month) I was being selfish not taking somebody from the next generation to pass along some of the woodsmanship skills needed the survive the AK bush.
I saw through the BS, but figured it would be nice to have a Sherpa for  moose hunt.  :goldtooth:
