Once I was satisfied with the exact spot I wanted to stand, and made sure the ground was prepared for silence, I just relaxed until I hear them crunching...

Well, it didn't take long for them to audibly announce their presents and I began to direct my attention to the 1st opening and started aiming.   Yes, aiming.  I aim before I draw the bow most times, and with this scenario, I focus on the 1st window and see the animal in my mind's eye and start aiming....

As the leader was crunching straight in line with my 'wall', my bow was already raised, and tension was on the string.  Being that there were nine of them, the leader was being rushed a little to stay the leader, so the window quickly opened, and I shut it just as quick....

Hmmm, why is my arrow this close to my ambush local?

Fletch top center...

Why was it so close? Because this was the escape route chosen...

What is that clacking sound I hear on the video? Could it be a javelina?

So Kodak Fan was a 1st time LTR hunter and not far away, just  around the other side of the pond, so I scurried around and asked him if he wanted in on the fun...

So two minutes later I dove into the land of spikes and daggers hot on the trail.  This went very fast as the trail was showing a lot of crimson. Then I thought I heard something that I'd heard before and stopped to see if it was what I thought it was. Silence. After no reoccurance, I proceeded on but slower this time. All of a sudden, Jim, who was looking under the very short canopy while kneeling on the sendero, said he saw  my javie walking at the 2 pm direction of my high noon direction.  I paused for a moment to see what else he might see.

Nothing new transpired, and I wasn't about to leave my blood trail, so proceeded on just a couple of yards and I heard that sound again definitely confirming earlier thought.  That it was not the javie Jim saw to the right of me.

Please remember to let the clips load a bit before clicking play....

My javie was politely asking me to leave...  from only 10 yards away.....

https://www.tradgang.com/upload/terry/20230203_175329.mp4

Still at 10 yards.....

https://www.tradgang.com/upload/terry/20230203_175234.mp4

Again, 10 yards.....

https://www.tradgang.com/upload/terry/20230203_175416.mp4

Now at 4 yards before he realizes I'm there....

https://www.tradgang.com/upload/terry/20230203_175429.mp4

And then this guy shows up....

Now he turns and is coming at me from my left, and you can hear him woofin at me while getting politely asking to leave again by the chomping one for the last time.

You can only see him at the top coming from the right for a split second when he turns toward me and I put down the phone and went deep hook on him....

https://www.tradgang.com/upload/terry/20230203_180238.mp4

Once he stopped and got through with his speech, he backed up and stood his ground.

Then THIS guy shows up to my right, so now I'm surrounded...

This all was happening so fast, and it was such a rush....

So now I texted Jim and told him I was 4 yards away from the chomper, and he replied, "Dang Terry, don't pet it!!!".

By now, the javie had had enough of asking politely and basically told me to get the hellsinki out !!!

I have been hunting with this bow for two years at LTR now, and have killed 3 javies and 1 big hog. All were pass through shots.  I've been hunting with 60 and 70# bows all  my adult life and decided to get a 50# two piece for travel for when I really need to move down.  I'm very please with this Centaur 50#@28 and the damage I'm still doing with a 4 blade Zwickey Delta.  Yep, with the Delta 4 blades.

I blew through both shoulder blades on this big mama....

I'm the "new guy" on this hunt. Took my first ever javi on day one, and my second on the last day with 30 minutes of day light left. Wasn't planned that way, but it allowed me five full days to hunt. It was an incredible hunt with a great group of guys with a wealth of experiences. Terry's tips prior to the hunt proved to be spot on and the javi's taught me a little more (think humility). I must say, that after watching Terry hit the ground and crawl after his javi, I thought 'this Green guy is a little nuts'. I learned that he's just very enthusiastic. Terry worked his butt off to insure everyone's success. He tracked for guys through stuff most sane people wouldn't enter. He was the first up and the last to turn in everyday. Can't thank him enough for everything. It was a week of fun I'll never forget!

The story for my monster javelina...

I saw 4 javelina working their way south on a dirt road. The wind was blowing from the south southeast so In had to come up with a plan. My best shot would be to get into the brush on the west side of the trail and hope that they would stay on the road and pass me.

I got deep into the brush, about 10 yards. I did that for two reasons: first, to try to control my scent cone  from the wind; and second, to be deep enough into the cover that I would blend in as much as possible. the cover closer to the road was too short for me to hide behind.

As I snuck in to the cover I took a good look at the group and saw that one of them was much bigger than the others. I decided to try for the big one.

The wind was blowing very hard (20 to 30 MPH) but the direction was consistent so I thought I had a chance. I could just barely see a patch of javelina fur through the brush. I decided to turn my back to them and to shoot when the big one was even with me. That way I would minimize my movement. When the big one was even with me and broadside I drew and shot.

I saw the wind push the arrow a bit to the side as the javelina flinched at the shot. The arrow went in a bit farther back than I wanted while all 4 javelinas scattered.

Terry and I were hunting together that afternoon. we waited a while and then went after the blood trail. Terry is like a bloodhound on a track. He sees things that most hunters would not notice -- and he loves to track. I let him take the lead and I trailed him to help[ him orient himself to the last bit of sign as we went. The javi ran a short loop around one side of the road; then the trail led across the road close to where I was when I shot. I had not heard him cross the road because of the noisy escape and jaw popping of the others that were with him.

As we trailed the javi into the brush on my side of the road it was quickly getting dark and our work became a flashlight job. Terry ran into a wall of cactus and I was using my flashlight to guide him to the other side of it when he said, "I see your nock." I use Glory Nock lighted nocks on all of my hunting arrows. I worked my way over through the prickly pears to where Terry was and I saw the nock too. It was very eerie to see the lighted nock seem to appear and disappear as the wind was whipping the mesquite tree branches around blocking and then unblocking the view of the nock. It was an eerie green glow that looked like it was moving.

Terry asked me to stay where we were standing while he worked his way toward the lighted nock. It looked like it was maybe 15 yards away, but that was an illusion. The dead javelina with the arrow still  in him was only 6 or 7 yards away. Terry said, "Wow. He is big."

I started breaking branches to create a path out of the jungle of cactus and mesquite with Terry following.

We got the critter to the car out on the trail and he was huge. Every bit of 60 pounds. He looked like a cross between a hog and a javelina. It took both of us to load him up.

It sure was a nice winter break from some of the cold in Indiana.  As far as the hunt I got lucky and was able to fill my tags quickly.  This doesn't happen to me very often.  We had a group headed our way with the wind at their backs.  We headed them off quickly and had a nice 6 yard shot with a 15 yard recovery.  An hour later we had one that caught us on a stalk but hesitated for a second too long.  He offered an 8-9 yard shot through a tiny hole that I was able to slip an arrow through.  I wasn't too sure of the shot but Hunter found him laying 50 yards away in the edge of a dry wash.  I got to spend the rest of the trip watching Hunter get some stalks in and taking some pictures.  Here's a few.
