Old bow will hunt again
« on: February 15, 2023, 08:24:22 PM »

This years trip to South Africa to hunt Sofala will be with an old friend.

I made this takedown Osage bow back in the 90's from a pair of billets out of the first Osage tree that I ever cut down off my place. It has taken game all over the country and traveled the world with me as a back up bow in my checked luggage more times than I can count.
I took two caribou bulls with it in the Northwest Territories, a Black Bear in Manitoba Canada, it has taken game in Wyoming and is always easy to shoot.
I haven't hunted with it in years and now that I have completed the Spiral Horn Slam in South Africa with a sinew backed Osage bow, I can start using what I want again. I am having to get built back up to its heavy high 60's weight but it wont take long before I'm comfortable shooting it again.
Quite as a mouse and will cast a 750 grain arrow with deadly speed and accuracy I am looking forward to hunting with the Medicine Stick again.

Great lines on that bow.  I really need to get my tools bought and get to work on my staves.
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

Way cool Mike, I'm really thinking about taking my 2000 millennial selfbow I made, the 1st one I ever made, to the Laredo Tusk Roundup next year.

That's a beautiful bow Mike with quite a pedigree!

Enjoy it in good health and best of luck with it in the field!   :campfire:

I love the color of old osage and this very effective selfbow shows it with class. Looking forward to "the rest of the story" Mike.

I've been doing that for years now just a little differently.  My old bows have gone on a drastic diet of 10 to 20 pounds lost so as a 77year old man, Ican shoot them again...tippit

I have taken weight off a few over the years but this one will stay like it is. It is a selfbow with no backing and I will short draw it if I have to before I touch this one. Many of my sinew backed bows have been reworked over the years as they needed it.
