Need help! BigJims
« on: March 15, 2023, 09:01:42 AM »
Ok, I'm going to try this again.. There seems to be an opinion that the pay for an archery position is very poor.. While it isn't something you can get rich off of, it isn't that shabby either.
For the right person.. We are offering approximately $40K - $50K depending on knowledge. Requiring minor training is acceptable, but they must have some background knowledge of traditional archery and willing to work approximately 10 weekends a year.

Duties.. to include but not limited to: Sales and technical help in office and at events. Working events between February and August. Other office duties such as inventory, packing and who knows..
computer knowledge is beneficial.

I was thinking exactly the same thing.

Good luck Jim, there's got to be someone who would jump at this chance.

Jim, I wish you the best of luck and this sounds like a tremendous opportunity for the right person!

I do all the hiring for the company I work for and it can very challenging at times.

In my opinion you are smart to be very transparent with your pay/benefit package and expected job duties.

Have you tried listing your position on one the job search boards like Indeed or Monster? I have had good luck with Indeed (sponsored, but make sure you set your daily expenditure limit). You may be surprised how many people look at those boards.

Best of luck to you!

Jim, you’re not alone. The company that I work for pays well and they’re having a hard time finding people. It’s the same all over town. I drive by factories and warehouses that have had help wanted signs out for months. A lot of them have the wages they offer on the sign. Good pay and they can’t find anyone. A lot of them are offering four weeks vacation and signing bonuses too!

I don't want to say that what we do isn't work, but it is certainly rewarding.  Those that deal directly with the public tend to experience a considerable amount of stress if they care.

The vast majority of our customers are understanding and patient.. Then there are those that think we are watching the screen waiting for their order... the order that keeps us afloat. Even though these are the few, they govern.

My employees generally experience loyalty.. if they show the same. I like to take them hunting both local and .. well where ever I can Offord.  Some expenses I cover.. and others they would share, but generally opportunites they would never have had otherwise.
I guess I don't understand it either as I have always been a company worker and still am.

there are lots of other benefits for an archery/hunting enthusiast that works here, but it is still work.. well, sort of. Everyone here is expected to earn their keep.
I have a 50 target Rinehart 3d range in my back yard. I get invites to hunt all over the world.. some of those allow for guests. I take my hunting crew to the midwest for a diy rut deer hunt every year. There are discounts on archery goods including some relatively decent custom bows. ... and I am in a lease that has lots of pigs.. some of which are true fatties!

I am not a difficult person to get along with.. I would recommend having thick skin however as we like to joke around, but sometimes I mean it. Maybe fishing is more your speed! The older I get the more I realize that life is about adventure.. well, and hunting dogs, bows and guns :)

Times have changed drastically in the workforce, the concept of loyalty is a temporary one. Most of us took on a job and hoped to stay for life. Today it's not about that anymore, the pace is quicker and from what I see in my business, the employees sense of tenure is 3-5 years and then they want something new.

Wish I was 10 years younger, I’d be all over this. Am still thinking about it.
