Thunderchild Turkey Pursuit
« on: March 16, 2023, 09:33:07 PM »
Stump and I, each plan to be pursuing gobs this season armed with the formidable Big Jim Thunderchild.

Our arrows will sport Tree Sharks backed by 100 gn inserts.

The Turkey Guild has already filed several protests and conducted numerous violent demonstrations.

What will others have in their arsenal?

I too will be chasing the thunderchicken!  Birds are already calling at my house and hoping to get away for a couple days to chase the osceola with some friends.. Will also be heading to Mexico in late April in hopes of bagging a Gould and some Javelina!

I will be shooting either a thunderchild or a Mountain Monarch this spring and lofting Dark Timber arrows tipped with a BigJim Big "3" 300 grain broadhead at them.  I predict Death and destruction!

For me it’s continued target shooting as I can watch several small groups of the gobblers heading through my back 40. I still have done no serious scouting, but have got lots of areas to check when I am ready and time allows. I am very envious of you active hunters and just can’t wait to start my hunts. Until my name pops up on Jim’s build list, will be using my new ShatterProof RD Bones Long bow at 45# @ 28”. Arrows will be woodies made up to 450 total wt with some 125 gn Annihilator 3 blade BH’s. Time will tell, but am hoping for some boots in the woods late ‘23 or early ‘24.

For me it'll be a Toelke whip with Bullheads for head shots or Snuffers for body shots. Arrows will weigh 500 to 520 gr

For me this year it's going to be a Black Widow TF, Easton XX75 2117's with WASP Traditional Sharpshooter broadheads. Likely going to be the same rig I use in the fall as well.

I guess I'm gone be watching again this spring...I've got grand kids that need to hunt and a few friends that have never killed a thunder chicken so I'll be collecting wings for fetching and mounting fans and beards.

Nice.  My first turkey was a jake take with a thunderchild and a Simmons tigershark.

It could be a Fedora excellerator or 560 hunter, but more than likely it’ll be one of two recently crafted KennyM r/d longbow tipped with a Zwickey that I take to the woods this year.

I'm jealous Friend. I'm on Jim's list for a Thunderchild now. Unfortunately I still have quite some time until my name comes up. I love spring turkey hunting so I'll be after them with something. Good luck all.

We don’t have a lot of turkeys in New Mexico but that never stops me. I’ve even killed a few. I will be using one of my homemade reverse handle longbows, 66” and 55lb. Turkeys are the only critter I use carbon arrows for, so dark timber 400 shafts with Simmons Tree Sharks and heavy inserts, 612 gr total.

Squirrel Hunter, you need to travel a little more.. I've hunted turkeys a few times in NM and even though I've only killed one there, I have seen hundreds.. and hundreds..
I get it though, not all areas are turkey hot beds and the numbers are down in certain areas as it seems. Georgia has shortened the season and reduced the bag limit as have other states.

I will be in North western New Mexico/South western Colorado in the fall for Deer and Elk.. May have to add a fall turkey to the list if they show themselves again  :goldtooth:

I pretty much use a 52# PSA Black Widow recurve for everything I hunt.

As far as the arrow choice, I'm using my 400 Gold Tips with a Treeshark broadhead and a string tracker. I'm glad to say that this system has already proved effective...took a nice gobbler yesterday.

Hopefully I can keep doing my part. I know the equipment will do the job.
