Hunting Goals and Destinations for 2023
« on: March 22, 2023, 09:22:49 AM »
I am just wondering what some of you guys and gals have planned for this year?
For me, deer, turkey.
Long shots, but am in for a lottery draw on moose and sheep. Maybe pronghorn.

Michigan whitetail and turkey, and as always, hopeful for that elusive Michigan elk tag.
Mule deer in September and hopefully antelope in October if the draw is good to me. Aside from that, just building up some more points in some other states.

Going to Namibia in August and back to Alaska DIY moose in late September. Im watching (not shooting) this year till my buddy shoots a moose, he's due!  Whitetails in Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri.  Going to get busy late summer, for the rest of the year!

I’m hoping for a good year.  By the end of April I’ll be hunting turkey on some land near my house.  By July I’ll be chasing carp and bullfrogs. I’m also hoping to get down to Maryland to go bow fishing for rays.  Come September, I will be going after squirrels. In October I will focus on deer and bear. I’m also looking into a week of hunting grouse out west.  By early November I will be chasing rabbits and pheasant. Finally, I hope to finish the year with a post-Christmas hunt for more deer.  I’m blessed to live in Pennsylvania, near large tracts of state game lands and ample hunting opportunities.   :campfire:

Huntnjim,
That should be quite a hunt. Are you going in a group or just you and a guide?
Also what gear are you using?
I lived in AK, my son was born there. I’d love to go back but probably not going to happen.

I’ve seen six grizzlies in the wild. They are such an awesome animal.

No where special.  And yet, very special to me.  Just out my backdoor for Turkey this spring, then some local 3d shoots throughout the summer, then back out the backdoor for deer in the fall.  My old hunting buddies have died or moved away.  No more "trips" in my future.   :campfire:

I am hoping to end my career (retire) in August. My hunting has always been local, simple, and daily in length. I am truly hoping to spend some time, with no schedule, camping and hunting & fishing. I'm not even sure how to plan something out of state, but hoping I can make a couple of hunts to see other locations and game in the future. Probably be DIY to be able to afford it, but that's OK - just doing & enjoying it will be reward enough.

Just came back from a texas javelina hunt last week. Planning on hitting a number or traditional 3d shoots this summer.
Turkey season opens in less than a month here. I'm planning on actually having time to hunt since I'm retired now. Morel mushroom time too. Then it will be Kentucky in the fall for white tail and whitetail here at home.

Plans for this year: Turkey at home, a lot of foam at ETAR, and lots of stumps before heading to the San Juan’s for elk, then back home for deer and various small game.
caught between:If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it and can’t leave well enough alone.

Alaska for Brown Bear. Leave May 22nd.

Best of luck, brown bear is at the top is my bucket list.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

The usual, Montana Deer, elk, antelope, and bear.  My remaining hound and myself are both a little long in the tooth to chase the Mountain Lions…my way.  I have max Montana points on Big Horn Sheep and am 1 short of max points for Mountain Goats, might get lucky.

I will be going to Alaska after moose again, but am taking Hunter, I will be concentrating on getting him his first moose.
