Red cedar veneer
«
on:
March 26, 2023, 05:57:27 PM »
Has anyone used red cedar as a veneer for a limb face whether on back or belly of the bow?
Probably be a longbow. I also understand if it is actually less than ideal and to avoid it.
If possible I would like it to be used I'm conjunction with either, hickory, bamboo or Osage as the main limb materials. Make sense.
Opinions?

I have, as you say, it's not too strong. Make them thin as you can and make up the difference with more core. .020" would be good I think.

I saw a Robertson longbow with Juniper veneers a few years ago.. The veneers looked similar to Eastern Red Cedar.

This is a picture of a bow Tracey built for herself. Osage and rosewood with Juniper veneers. We also have done it with other combos.
