Bear Montana

Just pulled mine of the rack. 64" 50# @ 28" . I pull 26.

First Bow I bought about 30 plus years ago at the Bass Pro in Savannah, GA. I think I paid about $279.00 They sell for over 400. today.

I was reading a post. Some one gave it a bad rep. Uncalled for. It is a good bow. I have 5 costumes to compare it to.

I agree the Bear Montana is a good shooting bow. I have had numerous longbows over the years (a few high priced ones too). I am having to switch to shooting left-handed and I just purchased a used LH Bear Montana longbow 45#@28" and it shoots great and as good as my Great Northern and HH longbows.

I bought one as an inexpensive  backup bow  for an Elk hunt shortly after they were introduced . It was a good shooter after I reworked the grip and knocked off the excess material on the limb tips. The man I sold it to is still shooting it along with another more current one he bought. But for me to say it’s as good as my Wes Wallace Royal? That would be a stretch.

I thought they were only recently made, say in the last ten years. When did they start making the Montana?   Are they much different than a hh bow or northern mist?  They are shorter I guess.  How is the Montana different then other well known asl bows?

I am sure when Bear Archery started making the Montana. The bow I have is 64" 45#@28 and is the same length as my HH Wapiti. The biggest difference is the shape of the grip. The Montana has a square semi-locator grip instead of the typical rounded should grip like on the HH and Great Northern bow.

Ok.    Similar feel when being shot?   I’d like to try a long asl.  Just to feel the difference vs my 62” savannah.

Is a bear Montana considered a hill style bow?  I hate to ask that. Maybe that’s a ridiculous question.  Is it in the same grouping as the hh bows, northern mists etc etc?

Kinda figured that my start a z@$# storm.   I think I held a Montana for minutes only, unstrung at the cabelas in Miami 2019? Maybe even 2018.

Oh. Sorry. I didn’t notice the link.  Oh I saw that before. It was a toss up when I finally bought my Savannah between it, the Montana and maybe even the ausable.  Seemed like the reviews at that time pointed to the Savannah.  I must say, it looks better in person than any add I’ve seen. The wood grain throughout loos great.

Yes, it is very similar to HH longbows. Actually, to me the Montana does not have quite as much hand shock as the HH longbows and definitely not as much as the Great Northern longbow.

Maybe I should order one. Lol.   I always wondered about some of the more popular bear bows.

 I bought my Montana in 1999 at the factory, 55# @ 28". I think they were introduced a year or two before that. Sill shooting it from time to time. Getting a little arthritic in the fingers so don't shoot as much as I used to. Probably shoots better than I can. I like to shoot wood arrows with it and it delivers with authority where I'm looking. Good shooting !
