Help me with arrows for 45lbs

Im working my way back after a spinal fusion this winter.  All my bows are 55 to 65lbs currently.  I’m looking to get a 45lb bow to work back into shape.  My question is this - what arrows are going to be in the ball park.  I was thinking 2016’s with 150 - 175 grains up front?  I draw just barely shy of 28” and will be likely getting a Black Hunter LB so not quite center shot.  Give me some ideas and feedback please.  I’ve never shot this poundage so I’m curious.

I've shot both .500 and .600 spine with that poundage.

You should be in the ball park with what you have, I shoot 2016s out of my 45-50 pound bows with similar weight up front.

2016s should fine with your draw length and 45 pounds and the points you want to use that are heavier.


You might cut one to 29 inches and one to 30 and test the 2 arrows and pick the one you like best and cut all the other ones the same length.

Or bare shaft tune one shaft thats long and gradually cut it down to see where it tunes best.Use hot melt for the insert and you can pull it out and cut as you go down.

Anyway I see no problem with the 2016.Good 1st choice.A 1916 is also good.

I'm shooting 400 spine at that weight and 27.5 inch draw.  Bow is cut past center though.

I regularly shoot :
50@30 Black Widow PLX, so probably 47# for me.
45# Liberty English longbow
And a couple heavier.

My draw length is a bit longer.  I can’t shoot 28” arrows with broadheads as the back of the head hits the riser so I have found a 29” arrow works best for me. I have a few 55/60 on hand that fly nice with 160 grain field tips. I am thinking 50/55 with a lighter head might be better with my Liberty. I have a test kit on the way just to be sure.

In aluminum, 2016 w/160 shoot good for me. I would think with 175 grain heads that would be the ticket for you.
Maybe 1916s, but I don’t have any that are the right length. The few I have are too short.
 I have not regularly shot any carbons lately, so don’t know about them.

I've had spinal fusion twice, in the neck and major lower back (2 rods-10 screws). Follow your surgeons advice on timeline and weights allowed. During my recovery I had used 15# bow then a 30# bow over several weeks to build up to my 45# bows. Follow your doctors orders.

As for arrows for 45#, I use GT 35/55 Trads @ 29" with 50 gr inserts and 145 gr points, Or GT 15/35 Trads with 20 gr inserts and 125 gr points, or 2016 Aluminum with 145 gr points. My 35/55 shoot the best.

I have had success using GT trads 35-55#. Aluminums,2016 or 1916 depending on bow composition. The carbon limbs will let me use the heavier spine. The 2016’s I am using 145 grain points. At hunting range (20 yards or under) they are a stable arrow for me.

I would get some 1916s with 145 or 175 grain heads and not look back.
