Help me chose a broadhead

38 lb. Kanati longbow 28" draw. Got it narrowed down to two. Treesharks or VPA 3 blade I think.
Shot allot of deer with this 38 lb. bow, allot of pass-thru's but not the best blood trails for these old eyes!
What do you guys think?

Here's my take for what it's worth, never killed a deer with anything no way near that weight.... but....

The Tree Shark *might* be too wide to jeopardize impeded penetration from a rib that is just not needed for your weight bow. I love wide heads and an not concerned with ribs at all with my equipment.

So, that being said, I would go with, if it were me, a VPA.

3 blade gives more cutting surface and blood producing penetration.  VPA is good but there are many 3 blade solid broadheads out there for less and equally good in quality.  JMVHO

I recently got some swamp sharks from Simmons. I shoot a 41-42lb longbow with carbon arrows.  The swamp sharks are 175gr and my arrows weighed 535gr.  They make a massive hole and good blood trails.  I got full penetration on a warthog and an eland , shot a kudu dead on the shoulder, broke the shoulder bone and got the lung. 

I plan to try the tree sharks on deer and javelinas this year.  I think having a heavy arrow that flies well is the key with light poundage bows.  I’m impressed with the Simmons.  Hear lots of good stuff about the VPA but I’m going to stick with my 2 blades.

Zeebob, that is a nice width and still wide. Much more manageable with low weights on  those animals than the over 2 inch wide tree sharks.

Bamboozle, I wasn’t sure how good they would work, but I’m impressed now, as was our PH. He is going to try some himself.  I killed all three animals with the same head. They are built tough and they are easy to sharpen with the right equipment.

This fall the tree sharks will get tested on deer….

For 50 years I have stayed with my tried and true Zwickey 2 blade Eskimo Broadheads.
Easy to sharpen, easy to find & buy, and cheap compared to other fancy stuff out there.
They work! And I don't cry if I happen to loose one.

Similar situation here, sticking with a carbon build, are the Woodsman screw ins worth it or do you glue on adapters and stick with VPA’s?

Johnny... Woodsman can be glued on or glued onto a screw in adapter....

VPAs are same....

Weve been using Simmons Tiger Sharks and have gotten some huge blood trails I wouldnt use the Tree Shark even in a 50lb. bow its just too wide . I still like the original Woodsman and the Razorhead with the bleeder we stay far away from narrow two blades .

SS you asked for opinions regarding Treesharks & VPA.

Since you are using a 38# bow, I stand with my original opinion regarding using only a very sharp cut on contact 2 blade broadhead.

From my experience, 3 cutting blades will slow down and or reduce the penetration into the animal.

Same with using the wide and Curved TS.

It is my opinion You do not have enough umph to properly push those broadheads through and into a deers vitals.

Sharpening the TS looks to be a PITA for accurate angle sharpening along that wide curve.

Personally, I prefer using simplistic, easy to sharpen, tried and true equipment.

You heard the saying about "Opinions", everyone has one... This is only my opinion.

Again, since you are using a 38# bow, I stick with my original advice on using a very sharp, cut on contact, 2 blade broadhead.

In my opinion, and again, It is just my personal opinion that many broadheads are just being marketed like fishing lures... to appease to the inexperienced bowhunter by using the look of coolness, look of dangerousness, using a wow factor of the cutting blades, etc,

In reality, using wide and multi blade broadheads have less penetration than a simple 2 blade cut on contact, of known, proven proportional dimensions.

I have stated it here before many times, and so have others, that 3 blades will out penetrated certain 2 blades in certain mediums due to the 3rd blade negating arrow pinch..... such as thick hog shields.

I know some of the armor piercing bheads of old, aka bodkins, were 3 blades, again, they negated arrow pinch.

I have difficulty getting my 3-blade VPA's as sharp as I can get my 2-blade broadheads.  Maybe that's just me.  But if you are concerned about penetration, then sharpness counts.  All that said, with my 45# bow I get pass thrus with the 3-blade VPA's.

Anybody here that works with knives, snap off blades, etc. everyday knows when that blade just isn't cutting it. Takes more effort to do the same cut as a new sharp blade.
Broad heads can loose their hair pooping edge just sitting in a quiver waiting for next season.

Foe me, the sharpest head is on the string.  I shoot 41@30 and 44@30 and found Zwickey No Mercy2 blade works for me. Slightly longer profile for penetration ( like African arrows ), easy to sharpen fly great.

Two blade NM at 20 yds. He went 20yds.
