This would be my "survival" knife. Large enough to chop wood and small branches to make a shelter, if needed.
Short enough to not be cumbersome and debone any game. Five inch blade is wide enough to grasp between index and thumb to skin.
My brother made it for me about 20 years ago out of a 1930s truck leaf spring. The steel has a low nickel content and keeps a wicked edge for a long time. The grip is made out of a nice chunk of birch burl, with a linseed oil finish which id amazingly not slippery, even with hands covered in blood.
