Waldrop pacseat
« on: July 27, 2023, 08:32:04 PM »
I have been hunting less often from trees so I’m going to sell my saddle setup. I’ve been just sitting on my pack but I want to be comfortable from now on. I’ve decided on the pac seat but can’t decide on the regular or turkey version. I live in the mountains so I’m climbing steep hills and worried the regular seat will be cumbersome. Like clipping my heels or snagging. Anyone have experience with these that would be willing to share your experience? Thanks.

I’ve had the regular version for 4-5 seasons and it’s one of the best hunting purchases I’ve made.  I live and hunt in steep mountains also, and I can’t ever remember an issue with it snagging or hitting my legs.  I’ve only seen photos of the turkey version, but it seems really low to me for all around use.  I’d also suggest getting the attachable game bag—it basically becomes a built in pack that stays put and doesn’t get in the way.

Interesting. Glad to hear that. Do you trample through rhodo or mtn laurel thickets with it? I wouldn’t think it would snag anymore than my pack with sticks and platform attached but thought I would ask.

Yes, that’s exactly the terrain I hunt in.  I’m in NE TN near the VA / NC border, so probably the same landscape that you hunt in.  To me, the Pacseat is much less cumbersome than climbing sticks and stands. Heck of a lot lighter too

That seat is the cats meow!  So comfy it allows you to sit still which is key.  A true hunting design.  Well worth the money.

Radford, they are still making the same seat with the same materials.  As far as I know, they are still building the David quality as always.

They have had a great following here and Dave told me years ago that becoming a Sponsor here really kicked off his buisiness.  The company has sold and everything is still the same from what I understand.

I have the seat and love the idea of it-

I’m a bigger person and I feel like it wants to cut me right at the knees when sitting. Makes my legs fall asleep.

Has anyone here had the same issue?

I called the company and they said they were working on a fix, but I have not seen anything yet.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks
Josh

I’d maybe add a cushion to raise your self a bit which should keep that from happening in mean time. Doesn’t have to be a real thick one but one to level out the butt and knees if that makes sense.

Yes, I have long legs and that’s exactly what I do.  It’s a small cushion from an old treestand.  I wedge it in between the folded frame for carrying and it works great

I've got the turkey version and absolutely love it. It can also be used to pack out meat by swinging the seat out on the back side.

Regular for me. And I added leg extensions made it 1 1/2”taller. Can sit 4 hours with no issues, other than staying awake !

You can just lean it against a tree on a steep slope. Just don’t open the legs !! Do it all the time.

Yes, I agree with Ron.  You just change the lean angle against the tree.  If you can stand on the slope you can set the seat up on the slope

If the wind should change direction on you...very easy and quiet to reposition to the other side of the trail. So easy to hang a small backpack on it.
Best chair I've owned. I've seen a couple ads for people looking to buy a used one.  HAHA good luck with that.

Works great and very mobile, as mentioned.  Move when the breeze does.  Plus, I can use it as a pack frame to haul camp in for a weekend.

Ron, can you explain how you did the leaf pattern?

Thank you

I've been using the Waldrop packseat for a number of years now and it is the best chair that I have found for deer and turkey hunting. When I am using small pack, I attached the pack to the packseat and use the packseat shoulder straps. When I use a larger pack, instead of attaching it to the packseat, I carry my pack on my back and sling the packseat over my shoulder with a sling I rigged up. I use a folding camp cushion with it.

The leaf was a stencil  I made myself, just from a piece of cardboard.
