Good day all,

With some hunting seasons already started.  What is your setup for the year and what are you chasing?

I have built myself back up to [email protected] this year. ( lightest poundage I’ve ever hunted with) 600 grain arrows and ZDelta4.   I keep telling Basinboy that I think the arrows will bounce off a rabbit, but basin keeps assuring me that they will work.

I’m chasing deer in Ohio and may go across the river to West Virginia to chase deer.

Too funny.  :biglaugh:

Why do you think they will bounce off a rabbit?  :campfire:

Well since I didn't get drawn in two states for moose and I didn't get drawn in two states for elk (draw only units)  :banghead: I'll only be bowhunting for whitetail bucks in Pennsylvania this year. This year I'll be bowhunting with my 1980s Bear Kodiak Takedown (55#/60"amo), 2016 Aluminum Arrows, and Bear Razorheads (greenies).

Most of the time I will be hunting with a Jerry Hill 55# longbow for deer, squirrel, beaver, and armadillos in Oklahoma and Kansas.  Wood arrows and homemade broadheads.  :bigsmyl:

I did not get drawn for moose either.  But I hope to be bear hunting in Minnesota this fall, and deer in ND and maybe MN.

I will be using a Tall Tines recurve in 52# @28” (so about 54 at my draw) that I too have worked back up to. But just in case, I have a set of 47# limbs also.

Put a sharp broadhead where it matters most and the only bouncing you might see is what the arrow skims off coming clean out the other side.
58" Toelke Whistler, classic grip.
48# @ 28"
46# at my draw of 27"
Surewood shaft of 29" to back of point, 55 - 60 spine range, dipped, crested. (3) 5" shields, 125 ACE standard.  The arrow is heavy,  but not too heavy.  Trajectory / cast is beautiful.
Using Dan's endless loop strings and I do really like them.  I use these for shooting the wood.
I do use the SBD string with wool puffs when shooting my carbons,  but I am on a wood kick this year with no signs of it letting up.
I don't believe I've ever been happier than I am right now with my set up.  I feel as though I have developed a connection with this bow.  It's almost as if reads my thoughts and wants me to shoot better than I ever have  :biglaugh:
Deer, turkeys,  and critters around these parts that'll make for a tasty meal I suppose.

I haven’t made a new bow for myself yet this year so I’m gonna roll with my walnut English longbow this year. It’s 68# at 27”and will be flinging surwood shaft with the 200gr ace super express for a total arrow weight of around 700gr.  Same arrow as last year but a different bow (it popped a splinter at a pin knot). But that combo went through the lead shoulder and broke the offside humerus, it was just a yearling, but still Atleast somewhat shows what a heavy wood arrow does.

I have 3 set ups that I plan to use this season.  H Hill Tembo and 2 piece A&H and PLX bows ranging in weights from 47-52lbs.  POC and Surewood arrows tipped with 3 blade VPA, Zwickey, Hill, and Ace heads.   Haven’t decided on the starting lineup yet but I need to soon.  NC season starts 9/9 and TN season starts 2 weeks later.

I have hunted rabbits in Ohio and I don't remember them being all that tough. But that was years ago, they may have evolved into super rabbits by now.

Centaur triple carbon takedown. 45 pounds. A very sweet and fast bow. It is capable of more accuracy than I am.

In the next 12 months I will be hunting deer, javelinas, hogs, black bear, and maybe coyotes.

It is nice to be retired at last.

I'll be hunting with my Big River D/R longbow 21st Century clone.  Tapered and footed Cedar arrows with Snuffer or Centaur Big Game heads.  For Deer and hogs.  Turkey if I run into a blind one.  May take Big River recurve with Carbon Express Heritage 350's for hog at Granger.
