I only hunt public land here in Texas.
Hard few years starting out, but enough time spent off season in the woods has really let me find some good honey holes maybe 25 minutes from my front door.
This has been the most excited I have been for hunting, and I think it’s due to shooting trad bows and knowing if I do get the chance to harvest a couple animals this season, it will be with a recurve.
Really enjoying archery these days, something that was missing with compounds.
I found these three spots last year while scouting during season. I left them alone until July, and have had cameras up. I will take them down Labor Day weekend, and then season opener is the 30th.
No bucks on camera yet, but TX public land bucks are elusive. I haven’t found their home range yet, but have seen a couple. They come around during the rut, and that is when I will see where they are heading and staying, and then I will catch them late season heading to bedding or feed. That tends to be a very small area around where I hunt, maybe 50-100 yards from where they bed.
