Which do you prefer, 11/32 or 23/64 woodies?
« on: August 07, 2023, 07:52:37 PM »
Just curious if anyone prefers 11/32 or 23/64 and why. Especially with 5/16 tail taper. Any noticeable differences in durability or accuracy for same spines/weights? Thanks!

Definitely, 11/32” and they will be of better quality if comparing them in the same spine group.

Well, in my limited experience, 11/32nds.  But I shoot 60/65lb in my hunting weight bows and 50/55lb in my target bows so they fall right in that shaft size for the softer wood shafts.
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

I don't rightly mind which, so long as they are good quality shafts of the right spine to begin with.

I've had to go 23/64's on plenty of occasions to get the spine I need, but then I guess I've never really been a good enough shot to notice any difference.

For me they're both good, both sizes have shot brilliant, and put in the right place, with a good sharp broadhead, they'll both keep you very well fed....

Bare shaft, then a paper tune to double check and finalise things, and either is good to go.

Best

What Lex said x 2

Currently running and building a bunch of 23/64’s tapered to 5/16 and they are just dandy

I've always used 11/32. That was the most common when I started and have stuck with them since...when I shoot store bought shafts.

What Kelly said. A smaller diameter shaft that is same spine will be better quality wood.

I never paid that much attention, when getting the spine I need, with tapered and footed arrows I guess mostly 11/32.  23/64 shoot good, as well.

What Lex said x 3. I shoot both sizes due to spine needs. There isn’t any noticeable difference that I can tell concerning accuracy or straightness. Keep in mind, we’re talking about 1/32” of an inch difference in diameter. Concerning durability, the thicker shaft should be slightly harder to break. I haven’t seen much difference there either.

A set of arrows properly built for your bow will shoot well whether 11/32” or 23/64”.  For hunting there is the argument that a thinner shaft provides better penetration. But with a 50# bow and heavier and tuned bow and well built arrows and sharp broadheads and well placed shot you will be fine.

Have always preferred 23/64", they've been more durable overall and behave better for me.  And they look better with big feathers, which is my preference.  Best to shoot what works best for you.
