It's really simple. Just don't take those borderline shots. Tomorrow is another day.

Tony we had a group squirrel hunt in eastern Oklahoma and Father Griner shot two black squirrels, the only ones I have ever seen.  Cool to see the one you got.

Thanks Gordon. Yes over the years I have taken a few black squirrels with my bow. I always consider them a prize take as compared to the gray squirrel. Here are a couple more that fell to my arrows.

Oh yes a thread and topic after my own heart. I love bowhunting small game. I cut my hunting teeth on small game many years ago back on the old farm, now 58 years later, I am still out after them.

 Tony

Nice, Tony!  I remember seeing your posts from quite a while back.  Always enjoyed them.

Thanks McClean and Archie. Other than going after carp and other rough fish, going after stingrays is some real action on the water, not to mention they are quite good to eat. Here is one I took hunting with the great Rob Davis(deceased) that weighted 134Lbs. Believe me he put up a pretty good fight, but Rob with his experience, we got him aboard. Then I was able to get one of those coveted T-shirts that Rob gave out, only if you took one that was a 100Lbs or heavier. Prior to this one the heaviest I had taken was a 70 Lber.

Tony, you know this is a small game thread, right? A 134 lb. stingray might be considered big game.  :biglaugh:

LOL, yes Maclean I think you are right(laugh) he probably won't qualify for small game with that kind of weight, shuck that even heavier than some deer. Here is the 70Lber I took, which turned out to be a female. She was right at the point of giving birth, and we just pushed on her stomach and out popped 5 little stingrays. We put them in the water and away they went.

wood carver 2 on the Southern stingrays which are shown in the pics, we get the meat from the top and bottom of the Ray, where as on the Cownose rays we just get the meat from the top. But you can cook rays just like you would do just about any other fish, you can bake, broil and even deep fry them and seasoning them accordingly and they are quite good. As far as the groundhog, like you I have taken quite a few over the years with my bows, and yes some are much bigger than others

Thanks Terry for the kind words. I have been quite busy this summer, and I have yet to take a groundhog with my bow, but hopefully something will fall before hibernation. I took these 2 last year that were living under our shop at work.

No Worries Tony..... here in GA hogs are considered small game.  Seriously, a small game license is all you need to hunt them.

Shooting Rays would be fun!

Since I became a senior, small game, some game birds, and fishing is free. Just need a drivers license as proof. We have 3 species of rabbits w snowshoe and jackrabbits the most common. I've shot the only cottontail I've ever seen. Maybe the last one?

Yes Gun Bowhunting for Rays is certainly a lot of fun. I have certainly enjoyed my pursuit of them. This here is myself and my best friend Jimmy of 44 years, and this is his only ray he have ever taken when he lived here in Maryland, he is now living in South Carolina

Yes Sojurn that beaver sure do count in this thread for small game. I have never taken a beaver. Here in Maryland you are not allowed to shoot them, but trap only. But I have taken some Nutria with my bow. They also were fun to go after with no bag limit.
