Does anyone have any tips for trying to learn to shoot a tab. Im going from a glove to a tab because it should be a cleaner release, but my arrows are all over the place, mostly left, just barely hitting the target and quite a few miss the target completely. If i switch back to my glove while practicing l, theyre all straight down the middle, thanks

If your arrows are all over the place, that's you, it's not a piece of leather as mentioned earlier.  You have a mind game going on it's not glove or tab it's your psyche.

To the person that left and emailed me on account of "I'm a pinker in the backbyard" sorry, this is a bowhunting forum.

I can't and won't cater to the world.

If you look at the advertisements of the glove and tab makers and their claims about improved speed and cleaner release, you would come to the conclusion that they must be "release aids" or they couldn't provide all of the claimed benefits that aid your release. And if that is just advertising hype by the makers that we should not fall for...well, who among us has not taken the bait on some product?

That being said, I fully support tinkering and experimenting with options and finding out first-hand what works for YOU. That's how I settled on using a glove. So, go ahead and experiment, Bijoukid, and learn what works for you. First-hand experience is a great teacher.

Howard Hill won 196 field archery tournaments not 176, he was using a glove.
A glove or tab is alot slicker than the skin on fingers, even when you’ve built up calluses. So I’d say a glove or tab is an aid in a cleaner string release.

Im also one of the ones that just can’t get used to a tab. I’ve tried about every type out there. But I also don’t worry any about it as the glove works just fine. The only reason I ever tried a tab was the common belief that a tab is more accurate. I don’t agree. IMO a tab can be better but it’s not guaranteed.

I go back and forth between the two and like them both. I haven't decided which one is better. I will say that I didn't like gloves at all, until I tried the American Leathers Big Shot. And tweaking and modifying my tabs made a huge difference. It's a journey.

I've been a tab split finger shooter since the early '50s, but so what, who cares but me?

All that matters is what both feels and works best for each of us. Won't know until you give each a GOOD try, not just one or a few shooting sessions.

The reason I prefer a tab is because I can make them out of very thin leather (the tongue of a shoe is a good source that's usually already "broken in") that has the right amount of compromise of stiffness yet yield a good feel of the string.

I'll add - a tab feels as close to using fingers only on the string, less of a cumbersome, restricted feeling, for me, not you.

My old workhorse tab, thousands and thousands of arrows launched, still just as good as when I made it 30 or so years ago ....

For a split finger shooter, it's the middle finger that carries most of the string tension load, some on the pointer finger, and little to none on the ring finger.

In any event, if the glove/tab don't fit then just acquit.    :campfire:
