I still have a considerable amount of Black and white.. especially for veneers but it is disappearing.

My supplier, the only importer of it in the country has told me.. a few years ago, that they may not bring any more in. It is getting too difficult as the delays in shipping and receiving are causing too much damage to the wood.

Four years back, they lost an entire load. Most exotic hardwoods can't be kiln dried and are shipped "wet".
Black and white is extremely tricky until it is under 20%. At that time, it can be persuaded a bit.

It is one of the most stable woods I've used once it is dry not to mention beautiful!

This is pretty nice material once its dry...... But drastic changes in humidity levels and moisture content can cause it to check. but.... that is true of most ebony materials. Gaboon ebony especially is terrible about checking with changes in humidity levels. I wont even use it in a riser any more.... I've had real good luck with Macassar ebony over the years , and the B&W ebony bows i've build have all held up excellent.

The bow i just refinished had some checks in it after the owner moved and stored his bow in a much dryer type of heat in his home.... But... it had stayed stable for 10 years prior to his move.

This is true for a lot of different wood types, and even in fine furniture. Once it has climatized it stabilizes. Back in the days i built more furniture, i used to bring the material in the house and let it climatize before building. That works well....    Kirk

What would you charge for an 8/4 x 3" X 24'' riser block Jim?

Wish I could help you with that kirk. I have a bunch of blocks still,  but not many that will cleanu over 1.75" and none over 20"s
Unlikely we will ever see new shipments of B&W that will yield 2" thick dry and clean due to new laws in Laos.

What about 4/4 material?  what dimensions can you come up with that's dry?  Or veneers?  do you mill them yourself?

I mill the veneers in house and I have dry amaller riser blocks.

Yes sir.. $100 for a set of 4 veneers and $150 bd ft for dry usable B&W lumber.
Pallet of AAAA KOA, monkey pod, and spalted mango due in shortly.

Jim sad to hear the BW ebony is getting limited I've just started working with some exotics and that's definitely a dreamy wood. But I am excited to hear you'll have some spalted mango.  Will you be breaking some down and adding it in as lams and riser blocks section on the website?

  Yes people want to see the actual block of wood they are ordering, a lot of posting and deleting pictures.

Jim if I wanted to check in on that mango when should I email the company?   

I would grab some of that sweet ebony for future use as well

Well..I don't expect it to ship until mid week next week. Probably won't have it in hand for another week.
