My son, Mason, got it done with a recurve on Thanksgiving morning! He’s killed a handful of deer with his rifle and his compound over the years. This past spring he said, “I want to go all-in with a recurve.” So we set up a Browning Folding Hunter that was gifted to us, 45@28. Built some autumn orange 2016’s and he asked me to make them red, white, and blue. They were perfect with 150 grain Ace Standard heads.
He’s a 3 sport athlete and travels a lot so time in the woods is limited for him. But on Thanksgiving morning I get a call - he says, “I just shot a b-b-b-buck!” All of you know the excited adrenalin-riddled stutter i speak of!!!! Blood trail was excellent and he saw it crash from his stand.
I’ve killed a pile of deer in my life, but don't remember any I was more proud of than this one. My avatar pic is of him his first day hunting with me, carrying his Black Rhino bow with me when he was 5 or 6.
