Don't know what happened.  E. Donnall Thomas Jr is one of the best outdoor writers out there.  Don't recall ever meeting the man in person.  Would like to share a campfire with him for sure.

Currently, have four of his hunting books, and another on the way.  It is interesting to travel the world with him, as he makes your feel a part of the experience.

I too, enjoy Dr Don's writing. He does have a way of pulling you and making you feel like you are there with him. I spent a few minutes chatting with him several years ago, at the Kalamazoo Expo I believe. Very easy to talk to and seemed genuinely interested in our conversation. He asked me a lot of questions as to where I hunt, equipment preferences and such. Great writer and a better person.

I truly believe that he is a unicorn and we will not see another like him.  The backround that he draws on is truly remarkable.  I just to elaborate on a comment made by Wudstick about being drawn into the writing:   A very long time ago, way before I knew who he was, he was traveling in Africa and came to stay where I was hunting for just a day or two. He visited, hunted, and sat around the evening fire.  Subsequently he wrote the story of that time which was included in The Double Helix.  To my surprise and pleasure he made a point of recording the names of the guys that were there and put them in the story.  Who does that?  Now it is all about me me me.  What a gentleman.

I’m most of the way through his book. This one paragraph embodies Don Thomas’ ability to transport the reader from a recliner in Indiana to an African desert, at night, tracking a wounded animal, with Bushman as your guide. Thanks Wudstix and Don Thomas
...because bow hunting always involves the same essentials. One hunter. One arrow. One animal. -Don Thomas
