Glueing up Cocabola
« on: May 17, 2008, 02:40:00 PM »
I just got some real nice cocabola for some risers on my BBO bows.I know its a fairly oily wood. How do you guys prep it before glueing, you wipe it down with acetone or just sand it with course  paper and blow it off. Wytetale

I understand that acetone, or alcohol will actually draw more oil out which is not a good thing when gluing up.  I've seen people scrub oily wood down with soapy water and let dry, I don't know if that would apply to Coco or not. Tim

I wipe it with plain water and rough it up with 60 grit sandpaper.  I think the roughing is the key.  I finish it with thin (from the hobby store) super glue, sand that and finish with whatever you usually use.  Some finishes never dry on coco.
