Thank you Tradgang
« on: January 12, 2024, 09:48:43 AM »
I'm pretty much self taught....well, Tradgang taught.  When I made the decision to shoot traditional style bows,  I had no idea the path it would take me on.  Somewhere on here is a story I never finished about a buck I shot and did not recover until the following spring.  Part of that story spoke of me putting the stick bow down for awhile.

Well, that has passed.  I love archery too much and was determined to climb back in the saddle.  This past year had me reflecting on what equipment I shoot the best and refocusing on my strength and health.  As much as I love wood bows, I knew an aluminum riser has always been good to me.  I bought a Morrison, paired it with some Javaman  longbow limbs and didn't touch another bow all summer.

We did not have the number of shooters this year as we had in the past, but the one we did have was way too comfortable.   I actually got a pic of him darn near under my stand on opening day as he looked towards the sunflower field I was in.

I hung one stand specifically for him in this one location and prepped a couple trees in case I felt I needed a move.  It seemed like a dumb spot as it was more "open" than I would've liked, but cameras don't lie....he liked this spot for some reason.

I only sat the spot twice and had deer encounters both times.

I hate when the pics don't work out...lol.  oh well, you get the idea.

Second hunt from the stand and I was getting ready to climb down.  As I sat my pack on the seat, there he stood in darn near the wide open at about 8 yards.  Now, people will say time speeds up in these situations....for me, they slow to a crawl.   Somehow my brain breaks down each of my movements in a calculating/efficient way.  I was able to reach across my tree tether, raise the bow from the hanger and ready for a shot.  I drew once and let down,.  He was quartering away at about 15 yards when I dropped the string.

I post pics all the time, but this site always gives me fits....lol.

Anyhow, GT 400 with 100 grain brass, 175 grain Grizzlystick Samurai.  56# Morrison ILF.  100 yard recovery.  Arrow entered behind the shoulder and poked through the opposite side.

This one will stick with me for awhile.  Thanks for everything.   Couldn't have done it without asking a bunch of questions and listening to those in the know.

You are very welcome!!!!

As far as the pix turning sideways, we would help if we could.  That happens from the way TG receives pics from members.  We may find a hack for that soon as well.

Congratulations on a great buck!

Concerning pictures turning sideways, if you are using an iphone to upload them, go into edit for the particular photo you are trying to upload and turn the "live" button off. I have had several photos load sideways, then load correctly after I completed this procedure.
