Snuffer experience?

From my own experience it's apparent a person would need quite a heavy bow and arrow setup to  consistently  produce 2 holes with a Snuff 160.

You guys that have shot Snuffer 160's for a long time and had consistent 2 hole chest shots.....what's your bow weight, draw length and arrow weight?

No shoulder blades, no gut hits....just 2 holes in the chest nearly every time...

57 lbs at 27 inches.  Shooting carbon arrows now with 125 grain inserts with a total of 580 grains.  before I started shooting carbons I shot ceder shafts with a total weight @ 550 grains.  Never had a problem on getting passthrough shots on whitetails, i even got a passthrough on a whitetail that went through the shoulderblade.

I shoot them with lam birch arrows weighing 700 grns out of a 68# bow,

53# bow with ash arrows 680grn. If Your have trouble making 2 holes, You need to sharpen Your's better.

58# @ 27 Carbon Heritage 250s with weight tubes. Overall weight 630grns,  awesome performance, massive cut. But you have to keep them razor sharp then put arrow shaft lube on the head. Keeps them from rusting, I do my whole arrow. They are supper slick, blasts right through them. Just make sure you do them a week or so before you hunt.

I shot a hog with a shaving razor sharp 125gr Snuffer + 75gr steel adapter + 100gr brass insert on a 29" Beman Venture shaft weighing 545gr.  The 55# Firefly delivered the arra at about 18 yards, hitting the broadside pig just behind the shoulder and lower.  The shaft went in about 8" and hung out.  I lost the pig after a 150+ yard swamp search, but recovered the arra ...

 

 

Overall, I think the Snuffers are good broadheads.  But I've now upped my arra weight to 600+gr and have gone back to Wensels.

I had all pass-throughs on the only four animals (feral goats) that I've shot with Snuffers. I was using the smaller, 125 grain screw-in version. The arrows were CX350 Heritage, with 100 grain brass inserts for a total weight of 620 grains. The bow was a Black Widow SAIII, of about 71 pounds at my draw. Of course, that doesn't mean that these will blow right through an animal every time - they wouldn't have had I hit the spine or a shoulder blade.

I've shot clean through deer, hog, and javalina with the 160 grain Snuffer, with 60-65# @ 30" high performance bows. I've never shot them with lower poundage though, so I'm not sure how they would perform with lighter bows.

My BH and arrow setup is: 160 gr. Snuffer with steel 100 grain BH adapter on either a Carbon Express Heritage or Easton Epic carbon arrow. (High FOC)

I do know the WW blows through "faster" with less resistance, if you understand what I mean...so penetration advantage would go to WW, IMHO.

I've used the big Snuffers, WW, razor caps, Simmons Tiger Sharks,,, and nothing I've used caused more damage and more blood on the ground than the 160 grain Snuffers....you need to keep them very sharp. I love them!

Shot he 160's &145's for somme years from bows of 75lbs and as low as 52lbs.Killed several deer w/ these setups but recomend to tune your equiptment well.

A 2 inch whole with a sharp 1 15/16's head.  I believe the only way is to blunt the tip, so that when it hits it stretches instead of cuts.  Just guessing, what's everyone else think????

On deer I shot them with 50 lbs at 28.  I wont use them on hog or elk but they are my go to for deer and turkeys.  I shoot through most deer stay away from the shoulder and your good to go.

I use either a Woodsman or Snuffer 125 with the 75 gr. steel adapter making them a 200 grain screw in head. With bows from 48-60# @ my 28" I have had all pass thrus, with only one of my last 5 not being a complete pass thru. I have NOT (yet!!) hunted elk or moose. My shots have been limited to deer, black bear and caribou and none have been over 25 yards. I would not hesitate to use a Woodsman for either elk or moose with an arrow weight of 600+ grains. For elk or moose I would try to shoot in the 55#+ range and if that weight wasn't doable, I would switch to a 2 blade. I have ALWAYS gotten a better blood trail from a 3 blade head. Before deer season this year, I am going to try to put together a hunting arrow using a 100 gr. adapter and a 160 gr. Snuffer and finished weight of around 640-650 grains, but I will probably have to go up a from a 400 Beman to a 340. Just passing on my personal experience for what its worth! Good luck! Mike
