Way to go Terry!  Anyone using any of Norman's string trackers yet?

I had no more gotten back to the hub for just a moment and I looked back up the road. There was one single havelina still standing on the hill. I kept an eye on him to see if he was going in on the right to join the others. Now that he was alone , he was moving toward me but very slowly since he had all the corn to himself. A couple of minutes later I was the one that was in a hurry.....

Here comes 10 of the 11 out of the Bush back into the road. This time they're only thirty yards away at the most from the circular area coming toward me, with the only place again I could hide being the wall.

With ten of them Jockeying for corn.I had to move and move now. I leaned over and jogged with the low fence as cover and ran around the circular opening back to the wall. As soon as I got set up, I heard crunching. So they were now closing in pretty fast. Again, knowing that I had no back, side or front cover at all I knew I had to shoot the first one or I was going to get made.

Within a minute and a half I saw legs through the prickley pears so I slowly raised my bow and prepared to draw. As the javie started to walk again I began my draw all the while he was still behind the last 3 yd of prickley pears. He only paused for a moment.  I was at full draw when his nose stuck out and he just kept walking. As soon as the vitals were available the arrow was gone.

The shot placement looked great, however the arrow did not blow through. I could see the arrow sticking out as well as the downward angle and thought it had pegged in the lower off shoulder where it starts to form a leg bone, and boy did he start carrying the mail.

Now here goes the merry-go-round....

KAZ ran around with 1 for a week but he never got a shot. I will say that south TX is probably not very friendly for string trackers.  One guy the 1st week shot 3 animals with Chad Orde's model and the string broke very quickly after entering the land of spikes and daggers.

Javie is now barreling to the left circling the deer feeder's perimeter fence leaning left so hard like it's on a motorcycle. It only makes it 3/4ths of the way around the fence and goes head over heels piling up to a motionless halt.

What happened to the other half of the arrow?

Mr Rothhaar road it all the way till the end. He had the last laugh by permanently retiring the arrow.

Ryan Rothhaar sent me a few original 145 grain Snuffers a few months ago and I told him I would take an animal with one on my next hunt in honor of his father.

This one is for you Roger.  :campfire:

50@28 58" Centaur triple carbon TD, 145 grain Snuffer through the middle of the shoulder blade...

Ribcage hole.....

And as I suspected, the Snuffer pegged the opposite side exactly where I thought.

To be clear,  I was using one of Chad's string trackers the 1st week.  I've been using that particular tracker for quite a few years with varying but generally positive results.  On this hunt the 17 lb string broke at the broadhead 3 times (haven't figured out why) but in no way was the cactus or thorns a factor.  Actually, one time the string stayed in the animal for 50 yds and took me to 1st blood.  I'm still a believer in string trackers when you are sitting/stationary.   Obviously they'd be difficult if you are moving.

Overall the second hunt was much better than the numbers brought in.  Being with the weather conditions from the first week Joe and I could not go out and scout on friday for letting the roads dry. So, we went out early Saturday morning and found 5 wagon wheels for everyone to have a spot. They were nicely spread out as well, giving everyone plenty of property  between each hunting tandem.

Joe and I named all of the wagon wheels and we thought the best thing to do was to draw names of a hat since we had no clue which ones would be more  productive.

There were plenty of opportunities for shots. However, the wind was swirling the first couple of days, and that blew a few sounders up  really quick. There were also several self admitted rookie mistakes made , which can happen to any of us at any time. The rookie mistake of not picking a spot and having your windage perfect but shooting just over its back. One hunter shot just under one, and the coyotes got a couple also.

Unfortunately , meathead and meathead jr didn't see much action even though they were in the middle of the property on the prettiest wagon wheel there with a little pond and a great view. I have no clue why that area was not productive. There was no reason for it not to be.

But again, it was a better hunt than the number speak, and what a great group of guys we had camp and the food they brought was absolutely fabulous.

This particular property also had a very interesting structure, a castle tower created as a replica of one that the landowner had seen in Spain.

Pics in a bit...  watching Tom Phillips put a stalk on....

Another nice javi Terry! Congrats!  For my hunt I wasn't shooting a snuffer but the other end of my arrow was fletched with four fletch in the 60-120 configuration which I learned here from Ryan Rothaar.  If I remember right Roger liked that configuration for four fletch.  It's become my favorite way to fletch for best flight and stability.

Yeah Gary,  I  grabbed what I thought were my predator spring green pants but I grabbed a pair I inherited from Chris Surtees instead.  They are size 38 and I was having to hold them up because I didn't bring a belt as I don't need on with my pants. But I did Chris proud and got them bloodied.  I found 5 Grey plastic grocery bags and tied them together then hung on end on a towel hook and twisted them up for a belt.  :goldtooth:
