Recommendation for a Wood or Wood/Phenolic Riser for ILF Limbs
« on: January 21, 2024, 08:02:38 PM »
I'm looking for a riser for ILF limbs.  I want to use the bow for hunting and would prefer a wood or wood/phenolic riser.  Can anyone give me a recommendation for a good bowyer who builds such a riser?  Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Chuck Hawes http://www.chuckscustombows.com/ is a bower who is becoming well known in Northern California, although not so much in the rest of the US, I think.  After a local longbow champion who I know started racking up wins with one of Chuck's wood/phenolic longbows, I had to get one too.

I'm really more of a recurve shooter, but also enjoy entering longbow contests from time to time.  I shoot this longbow better than any other longbow I have or have shot.  The main reason for this is probably the carbon backed limbs he made for the bow, but a strong second would be the heft of the wood/phenolic riser.  People are shocked by the heft when I hand this bow to them.  If what you want is increased mass weight and you don't want to fool around with screw-in metal weights, a wood/phenolic riser is the way to go.

Dryad
I had the chance to look at and shoot several Dryad ILF risers.  When the money and the riser were around at the same time I bought the riser.  17 inches.   It's been my hunting set up for a while now.

I have 40 lbs Dryad Limbs and 45 lbs TradTech Titan Limbs--Both Longs making a 62 inch bow.

I had Chuck build one of his toxon 2 ilf risers for me, to grip specs of an old handle I sent him a couple of years ago. He used gray actionwood and purpleheart, came out really nice. Reasonable price, quick turnaround time, and easy to work with.  I've killed a few animals with that riser 😀

I don't use ILF bows, so I don't have any opinion or bias.  In addition to what's above, Kirk at Bigfoot Bows makes an ILF riser - I really like his Sasquatch takedown, but have no experience with the ILF bows.  Stalker also makes an ILF riser
