another LB question
« on: May 17, 2008, 11:36:00 PM »
I know that basically most things just come down to personal preference - what works for one may not for another- I would like some opinions as to which type of handle (wrist position)most of you prefer on long bows. Mine has what I would call a medium wrist grip. For my next bow I was thinking about trying the low wrist grip style, just a standard locator grip, like Black Widow LB's.
Fred Asbell says in his book that a long bow with a recurve (high wrist) grip is basically just a recurve with straight limbs. Any thoughts on this?

...slim, little palm swell, low wrist.

Fred is entitled to his opinion, certainly.
I don't have any recurves with straight limbs.  :bigsmyl:

My single personal favorite handle is the small straight grip w/ the forward hinge bump on the "Jack Knife" folding "Critter Gitter" built for me by Jerry Brumm over a decade ago. I prefer such small straight handle longbows which I shoot heel down/broke wrist with the arrow shaft as close to my hand as possible. This suits my style and better marries my hand to the bow giving me a feel in handling as if the bow is an extension of myself.

Big high wrist handles on bulky risers feel a bit more detached and sluggish to me. They are more stable in a static target situation, but I dislike this feel in a dynamic hunting situation.

I like a medium to high wrist grip. They just feel better to me. Hap
