52" Shrew seems fast
« on: January 29, 2024, 08:37:32 AM »
Well I'm just a few steps down a new trail! Picked up my first long bow if that's really what it is, A "52 Shrew @47#. I also am trying out my 1st carbon arrow, A Black Eagle Vintage 400 with 200gr up front that my cousin had laying around. I fletched it with 5" shield cut feathers, all brown in color...I can't see it fly like I'm used to, and its weird like I'm shooting almost blind! I gotta get some white feathers quick. Last night I ordered a half dozen Vintage 400s for my new bow and 3 700s for my daughter to try with her new Punky Shrewster, should have them by the end of the week. I have been shooting a 48# Supermag all this past season using 560gr Cedar and the Shrew is so new and different. I only took a few shots Saturday at my cousins house with his arrows but now this morning out at my bale, it seems like the Shrew is way faster! Just a weird fun new feeling! I gotta change feathers to white for sure, I'm used to being able to see the arrow all the way to the bale, and now its gone after it clears the shelf Lol!

Make a call to 3Rivers and get a bare shaft tuning kit with several different spines all full length and tune your arrows to the new bow (you will be cutting them down slowly). You can't do it right with a fletched arrow. Get an assortment of field tip weights as well.. Good luck!

Todays cold shots told me the story..I dropped 75gr point weight and got what I was looking for outa he 400..With 125gr up front at 33" nock groove to tip of point on the 400 I'm a little short on length for broad head clearance and down on weigh(485gr) all up flying setup. I'm shooting for 550-600gr with broad head and don't want two setups arrow wise, my brain ain't big enough for two trajectories. I probably can't even mess with two bows..so if this trail of tuning works out the way I want on the Shrew, the 48# 48" Supermag will be relegated to the bow rack for backup duty complete with a half dozen short 400s lol!

I gotta get back to Kalamazoo!
Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.
