widow arrow spine

What is the formula to determine the correct arrow spine for a BW.  If it's 1.4 x poundage
that seems a little high.

PSA 53@ 27"  125gr point  28" BOP  
equates to 70-75 spine.  
This seems a little on the high side.

Can anyone speak from experience.

I don't know about a formula but I know what shot real well off of my 60" MA II,52#@27".It liked a GoldTip 5575,cut to 28" with a 125gr point AND a 100gr brass insert.I tried the 3555's but they showed too weak so I went with the heavier spine and softened it up slightly with the 100gr insert--they flew perfect!

I've not had the pleasure of tuning a Widow, but I'd take at least 5 pounds off due to the 27 inch draw.

I reckon some Widow guys can help with the rest.

If you are shooting hardwood shafts, I would say that is about right.  If you shoot POC or other softwoods, I would go with 65-70.  That is from my experience with BW's and woodies.  Your results may vary.  Either way you go, you will still have to tune the arrows to your bow by either arrow length, point weight, and or building out the sideplate.

I do expect to do a little tunning, I just wanted a starting point.  I would like to shoot wooden arrows if I can get good flight.

Any Widow shooters out there?

I shoot 75/79's 30" to bop with 205 grains up front out of my PSA V 53# @ 30" I draw 29 1/2. If I droped to 125 up front i would have to go with 70/74,s

Your 70/75 is right on the mark. I make a lot of arrows for widows and bows that are cut 3/16" past center and that would be the spine I would choose.

Gosh, why don't Widow explain to their customers that the bow is tunable (that's the reason it's cut past center, right?) to different spined shafts. Never understood why they don't.  It's a mystery.  Or is it   :p         ...Van

Widow claims that they shoot real hard so require a high spine, fact is they are cut 3/16ths. past center and they are very spine tolerant. I have owned aseveral and with that 27" draw they may be a tad stiff but flecthed ya won't notice the difference a shaft should bareshaft a tad weak, like above I would shoot about 15# spine higher than your draw so a 68# shaft would be perfect if you were shooting a shaft over 29"s than I would go with 20#s over your weight of the bow again at your actual draw length.  68# spine would be about perfect for what you are looking for.
