All Fiberglass bow harvest thread

Starting this thread in the hopes that others will add to it, and to encourage folks to consider getting out there and hunting with the old fiberglass bows.  They are pretty much impervious to the elements and can get the job done.  Wish that I had started shooting them sooner than I did.

I took a fifty five pound paul bunyan that patrick gave me to play around with... Skip and blake had penetrated a hickory pair..... And I hit the middle of the 2 holes, making a complete delete  only leaving an oval with the fiber glass bow that Patrick had only loaned me... I should have snagged it!!! It shot really well !!!

I know that Terry can attest to the fact that I had no trouble getting through that nice boar with my bow that was only around 51 pounds.  Since he was there for the shot and the recovery.

Do Stuffed animals,dolls and GI Joes count as fiberglass bow kills?Me and my friends had alot of kills on those in the 1970s in the backyard.

No pictures sorry lost them in flood way back.  But I had a Ben Pearson, 2 piece takedown longbow, that was I think 53#.  I harvested 4 whitetails, few squirrels and a lot of fish with it.  I wish could find one again, it was bomb proof and worked great.

I have a bid on one but that's a few days away and I might be getting 1 in the mill. I'm still not sure but i'm trying to get one of those Paul Bunyans!!!

My first "real" bow was a Bear "Red Bear" recurve. Got it for Christmas when I was about 7??
Arrows were bought individualy out of a bow at the department store. I bought my first box of "Matched" hunting arrows (Hey? They all looked the same) the following year. Bear cedars with brown painted shafts, 2 white hens and a blue cock feather. They were tipped with old green Bear Razorheads. I made my first "traditional" kill, with that bow and those arrows... 

A friend and I were "hunting".... He had a BB gun, and I had my bow. We saw a squirrel, and the stalk was on.....
At about 10 yards (maybe 5?) my friend aimed, and pulled the trigger. At the hit, the squirrel jumped and  hopped a few feet. My friend cocked his gun and shot again..... Another hit sent the squirrel scampering for the nearest tree.
He reached the tree and started to climb.... Stopping about 3-4ft up from the base. I drew my bow and released...
THUNK!!! The Razorhead caught him between the shoulders, and pinned him to the tree!!!! 

Moral of the story...?? Never bring a BB gun to a bow fight

My only kill with my green Jet Bow was a big mistake. My cousin Johnny said "I bet you can't hit that there chicken". I didn't know it was my aunts favorite laying hen.
  Many years later I thought with all my hard earned smarts I could tune it good enough to shoot a deer with it but no such luck. It's the only bow I own that has only killed a chicken but it's also the only bow that HAS killed a chicken!

I used to have one when was around 10, it was taller than me,I used to lie on my back,  put my feet against the limbs and pull the string as hard as possible with both hands, the arrow would almost disappear out of sight straight upwards,  really wish I knew what happened to that bow.

I had a 20# York that I saved for when I was a kid. I can't remember killing anything w it. Maybe a gopher?

My younger brother was shooting it in the backyard one day and missed the target but hit the neighbors above ground pool about halfway up. It took a few days for the neighbor realized what happened. My brother paid dearly w a good whoopin

My first real bow was a green Fiberglas 25# bow from Sears.  Killed a couple barn cats and pigeons with it.  Don't recall were it ended up.

Look what I found in the garage! A neighbor brought these over one day because they always saw me shooting in the backyard.  I thanked them, but didn't think much of them and put them on a shelf in the garage and forgot about them until now. The bottom two bows are both Paul Bunyans - the recurve is 50# and the other one is 55#.  The limbs were spray painted brown, but they must have masked off where the name and poundage was printed. The top one has no paint but the logo and info are all but worn off - I've added a pic of what's left and of the handle. I suspect it is a Paul Bunyan also. Not sure what to do with them?

You should absolutely get a fast flight string and shoot that Paul Bunyan recruve!  Perfect poundage for hunting.  Either that or sell it.  If I didn't already have a 40, a 45, 3-50's, and a 55, I would be making you an offer.
