Overall, I am a recurve guy. I have trouble with the Hill style grips, and only slightly better with the semi-recurve grip of a R/D bow. A one piece R/D is usually a beautiful bow.

I definitely like the classic lines of a "D" shaped long bow.

I do like the look of a "D", but the look and the way my Blackwidow PL longbows shoot for me, I like much much more.
Best

No real preference. I’ve had both. Currently just a mild r/d.

R/D, have my 2 Wes Wallace Royals. I had a Pete George D for some years but never shot it as well. Then arthritis in hands started to make the bow uncomfortable to shoot. Passed it along. Had one of the first year Bear Montanas, it was a good shooting bow after I did the mods I followed in the FYI part of site here.. BUT, there is still this longing for a D bow, back quiver full of arrows and a beautiful morning of hunting Deer.

The deflex gives me the grip I like and the reflex better performance, so there's where I'm at...

I do insist on great performance especially with heavy arrows, so the R/D is the answer but I also notice how well the limbs have been tuned and I'm spoiled in that aspect with the brands I have collected. I get rid of bows right away that have even a tiny amount of hand shock .... I bought my first Pronghorn LB second hand and it became my main hunting bow right away .... I bought some camo limb socks to hunt with and they gave the bow a little hand shock ... It seems that the limb adjustment is very very fine .... I took them off right away lol .... A well made modern RD lowbow is a technical marvel IMO ...

ASL. I hate the need to be longer, but it's not that big of a hindrance I guess. I have never shot any bows as well as the 3 northern mist bows Ramer, American, Classic that I've had. I have had a st. patrick lake yukon styk and for whatever reason (takedown maybe?) I could not shoot it nearly as well as the NM bows. I love my PL which is r/d, but overall I still don't shoot it as well as the NM.

D for me. I have had a very few R/D bows (Jim Reynolds was one), that was to me as forgiving as a D bow. But, this is why there are so many models as we all are little different.

Recently, acquired a mild D/R longbow made by John McDonald, from a gentleman in IA. This bow although being one of the lightest draw weight bows I have is a very snappy shooter. It is @54# at my draw and kicks out 635 grain arrows with authority. Also, the only bow I have with a screw on quiver. This bow is one of three Big River bows I have that are going in my will.

Actually, BOTH.
An r/d limbset that braces to the classic "D" shape, best of both worlds for functionality and aesthetics.

R/D only. I can’t get around the D’s hand shock. Shooters now are 56” JK, 58” Shatterproof Bones, 60” BJ Buffalo, 64” Big Foot Flatliner.
