Centaur triple elite longbow or supercurve?
« on: May 31, 2024, 06:43:58 AM »
I am on the list for a new bow from Jim Pearce and am having a hard time deciding whether to go with a longbow or the supercurve. just wanted to know anyone's thoughts that have shot both or either. Mostly concerned about being accurate with supercurve. I shoot a 52# centaur longbow and do quite well with it but the supercurve seems exciting to try. Thoughts?

I've had one of his longbows for 3 years and have been VERY successful with it.  It sure checks all the boxes for me.  I have a super curve in the works and hope to be able to take it bear hunting this fall on the St Jude hunt I donated.  I haven't shot one so I can't really say yet.

Any supercurve is an amazing bow. It is higher in performance than a hybrid carbon longbow. If you want to move way down in draw weight, and have the highest performance posible, the supercurve might be the way to go.

Jim's longbows are such high performers as it is, and you already have one so you know about that. Jim's supercurve could be really tempting. It has to be top notch.

I mostly hunt with a Centaur Triple Carbon Elite, and I own and use Border supercurve limbs for another bow that I hunt with. The Centaur longbow is absolutely sweet and fast. The supercurve is even faster.

You can't go wrong with either bow you are contemplating.

Joe;
Now you did it, I just might have to get a Centaur Longbow.  MOAB is sweet, but Terry thinks allot of the Centaur.

Wud, yes I do think a lot of the Centaurs.  However, The MOABs I have are all one piece lonbows and I'm not paying the airlines one red cent more than I have to.

I shot one of Joe's Centaurs at his house and then again during the Laredo Tusk Round 4 years ago.  I really liked them and I decided to get a td longbow for travel, and in a lighter weight than what I am still shooting since a teen 40 years ago which is 60-70 pounds.

My 50 pound Centaur is still running Zwickey 4 blades through big hogs with a lighter arrow, so I am pleased.

I will be hunting bears this September/October with my MOABs in Cohutta you better believe.

I need another take down that is a bit more high performance than the 62" HTD 60# I have now.

Of my experience, the Triple Carbon Elite is most deservingly regarded as quite special among the elite longbows.

My hunting requirements these days dictate a much shorter bow, lower poundage and much higher efficiency as I hunt with 12 to 13 gpp.

I have a Centaur Super Curve on order.

I have had like 10 Centaur longbows. All glass, single carbon Chimera, double carbon and tripple carbon.

I had one of the Supercurves. It was 58 inches. It has a lot of preload so it will not draw the same or feel the same as the longbow through the draw force curve. The supercurve will be faster than the tripple carbon longbow I believe.

It might be little touchier than the longbow to form errors.I think finding the perfect arrow for it will be important. So tuning will be important in finding the right arrow!I think a heavier arrow out of it would be preffered by me

If I was to order order one I would get the 60 incher and the dark matter riser. The longbow would be a nice compliment to the recurve with the same grip on both. That would make a nice pair in your arsenal.

Wud, if you do thin the herd and decide to get a Centaur, would you get a longbow? And do you need it to be a take down?

My friend had one and echo's what Steelhead said. Didn't like the draw preload and said it was very noisy if you didn't use a heavy arrow. He said it was very fast but he prefers his centaur longbow.

Wud, do you plan on flying with it or other reason(s) for TD?

Mint, I've had two recurve bows that were loud with silencers on the string that came from the bowyer and I was managed to be able silence them with Bowhush and Hushpuppies with proper placement on the string.  I will also be shooting at 535 grain arrows. So I'm not worried about noise at all at this point.  But I will surely find out once I receive mine.

I detest loud bows, hence the reason I came up with Bowhush and Hushpuppies years ago.

I got my Border supercurve limbs to be quiet by using wool string silencers and by placing limb savers on the limbs. The limb savers look stupid, but they did the job.

Oddly enough, I did not have any issues with string slap on the recurve hooks.

And, yes, there is a lot of weight per inch early in the draw, and very little late in the draw. It feels funny at first.

Joe, the lack of string slap could be due to the deep radical curves of a super curve that the string lays roundingly on the limbs as it returns to brace as apposed to non super curves. Just a guess.

Yes, I'd like the option to fly with a bow.

Fortunately, my Border and TimberGhost super curve setups have been quiet.
