Carp Pie - anyone try it?
« on: May 20, 2008, 03:50:00 PM »
I saw the recipe for carp pie in the June/July issue of Traditional Bowhunter Magazine.  (To whit: throw carp fillets, an onion, and a dollop of sour cream in a blender and purree, then pour into a pie crust and bake.)

My first reaction was "that sounds really rude!"  But on second thought there's probably a lot of foods that seem gross to the uninformed until you try them.

Sooo, has anybody tried it yet?

Nope and am not going to try it.  I read that too and was like this isn't fear factor man!

Let me tell you there is nothing wrong with smoked carp.  That I have eaten a lot and like it very much.  Great with some soda crackers and beer.  You can keep the pie.  I like apple or peach.

Oh I forgot that it really reminded me of the SNL Bass O'matic.  "Take the bass yes the whole bass and drop it in the bass o'matic"

You got to be half starved from wondering in the woods for 2 weeks to make that thing look GOOD! It would be better used as bear bait in my opinion...sorry all you carp pie lovers...just looked bad!

I like salmon pie and tuna stuffed baked potatoes so carp pie can't be too bad.

It's a good thing that I would probably have to go 500 miles south of here to find a carp or I'd try it.

And no thanks, please don't send me any.

This is walleye, northern pike, whitefish, and brook trout country-and unfortunately water that is not conducive to bowfishing.

I hit a stumbling block right out of the chute. I tried to filet a carp once. I just couldn't do it. Couldn't figure where the bones stopped and the meat began. Other than that, it sounds kinda like a tuna casserole, a dish I place slightly higher in palatability than raw monkeybrains.

Seems like about 68% of you guys don't like it and 47.2% wouldn't try it.  And 74.23% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

So what happens to all the carp that are taken?  Seems kinda wasteful to toss something you shot.

I apologize for my insensitivity to all of you connesoiurs of the other white meat - carp.  In no way did I intend to compare your pallet to that of a "possum or other varmit"!    :biglaugh:

No, I'd never try it. It may, however, be a good substitute for stinkbait for catfish.

Ya know, after this thread, I'll never, ever look at another pie the same way again!

It doesnt sound to good to me.A few years ago I met a guy who told me he was going to cook up some barbecue buffalo ribs.Buffalo the other white carp meat!!! I had to say it was something new.I went home and dug some out of the freezer and put them on the grill that nite and barbecued them.WOW!!! they were good!!! So I would have to say I might have to try it.I would rather use buffalo than the german carp.
