You weaken the I beam by drilling holes for the insert . Believe me I have proof of this even using dG10 as the I beam .

Where are you drilling the holes? A Berger button hole from the side should not weaken it much at all….

Kinda late to this thread but I'd say the only downside to an I beam is having to hide it. Most people including myself don't care for the looks of it. I've been laminating some g10 parallel into my risers vs. I beam. I really enjoy the look of a vertical accent stripe in a riser, I would say 1/4" of g10 laminated into the riser would have to add a great deal of strength and stiffness and don't have to worry about hiding it.

Thats a non issue...You just offset the I beam and thin it down to 3/16" or even 1/8" ...   These risers both have a G-10 I beam.
