Mckenzie Target
« on: July 16, 2024, 04:08:31 PM »
I have a older Mckenzie 3d deer target I picked up cheap from a local club. It recently has started eating my glue on field points. Haven't changed anything to my arrow making. Any tips? Besides a better target?

McKenzie targets tend to get pretty hard after spending some time outside. I've got one that will pull out my inserts on my carbon arrows occasionally. You could cut out the kill zone and repair it with some of the 3D target repair foam?

The kill zone is pretty good still. But anything outside that (not that I ever miss) is the issue. Maybe I just gotta shoot better!

Are you cleaning out your furrels with anything to remove the factory oils?  And, what glue are you using?

Is the glue staying on the adapter or inside the furrel?

Mostly inside the glue on. I even tried scuffing up the tip taper with med grit sand paper. I haven't changed my arrow making process at all and don't have this issue. I'm thinking the old mckenzie is just getting hard in the sun. I don't have this issue with other targets.

OK.  I was going to say epoxy them and see, but if they stay, you won't be able to remove them.

Try 3Rivers.  They sell screw-on tips.

And use a good arrow lube like Woody's.

If it is happening to others, I can also suggest that you reheat the tips and "reset" the glue which might have gotten a bit brittle, or even just change glues.
