Broadheads for 45 lb bows

So the thread on light bows made me wonder. What heads do you all use w them most? I’ve never shot deer with a bow that light so I’m curious as to results if you all would share

I have used Zwickey Eskimo's for 30+ years with excellent results, from bows in the mid-50's to the current 45# at my draw length. Same for this year-why change a good thing.

The only reason I’d personally gone away from Zwickey was they were unavailable way too long. Thanks for response.

Last year I wanted to switch to a three blade. I used Thunderheads because they are surgical sharp. Had a complete pass through cutting a rib in half on the entrance side. 45# 59 Kodiak reproduction. Deer went down maybe 50 yards at most.

I have had good results with the original Woodsman broadheads and bows in the 45 pound range.

Am I out of bounds with this one if my bows are 48@ 28 but I draw 27?    If not,  I'm using the VPA 3 blade glue ons pretty exclusively.....they seem to do a fine job.  I epoxy them to a 75 grain steel adapter for 235 grains of point weight excluding the nothing fancy factory aluminum inserts EASTON gives you with the carbon legacys.  They truely fly like darts.  On whitetails, they pass right through and leave a nice hole!

This season I’ll be trying MA3s from a 40# at 27” selfbow. I’m getting 150fps from a 500gr arrow setup. I couldn’t quite get them shaving sharp but they’ll take a curl from fingernail. I won’t get many hunting days this year. But if I’m successful I’ll update and let you know how they did. I’m pretty confident they’ll zip on through as long as I miss bone.

45 # longbow of my own make and design. VPA 3 blade 1-1/8 cut 200s on carbon, mostly pass thrus , bro is shooting a 42 @28 test bow thats 54" with same head. Shot two bucks year before last, first was quartering away from ground, arrow fell out first jump, second stuck in dirt from tree stand.

I do have some doug fir wood arrows that I built last year that are sporting older Simmons Interceptor glue on 160 gr. The long ones like the Safaris ...... not the newer barbed style like the screw ins.  I don't think these are made anymore. I tuned with them and got them flying real nice but have never taken them into the woods ........ but I think I am going to this season.   If I connect,  I will most definitely report my findings and results

Zwickey Eskimo's for 50+ years.
In my opinion best all around cut on contact head.
Easy to sharpen, value, bang for the buck, Nothing fancy, just works.

Shooting VPA 3 blades for the past several years. Bows from 40-45#at my draw. All complete pass thru on the last 11 whitetail. Last years deer was quartering away and it passed thru the chest and into the opposite front leg. No worries with good shot placement and well tuned bow/arrow!

Thanks fellas. As stated I’ve never used a bow to hunt that light. At least 50lbs. Doesn’t seem too much less weight but I was curious as this new Whip I’ve got is super nice imo. Shoots too well to be regulated 3D only bow. Shoots fantastic and penetrates quite well with about anything into a new rhinehardt block and they’re hard. Was originally thinking on trying 150 stingers but I have some ideas. Thanks, appreciated

I am cheap and still learning how to get hair popping sharpness on broadheads so I have always Manus Stinger 150gr.

I've been hunting with a 47lb Palmer recurve for over ten years and have used  3 blade woodsmans, 3 blade Razorcaps, Palmer Exteme cut 4 blades, Muzzy Phanton 4 blades and Simmons sharks two blades with great results on deer and sow hogs. For boars I use simmon sharks only since I want to get past the shield and think a two blade makes it easier. I get pass throughs on deer so penetration is not a problem.
