Hybrid Longbow?
« on: October 01, 2024, 12:07:13 PM »
Who is currently building a quality short, 54-56 inch hybrid longbow in a takedown model? I have owned several makes in this category through the years, but have been out of the bow buying game for about a decade. So, I am curious to know the current opinion of the Gang.

Also, please don't try to talk me out of a short bow. I have been shooting for almost forty years, and I like short bows.

I’m not sure if there is such a thing as the “best” but JavaMan makes a great short hybrid bow.  :campfire:

Following this; I am pretty much set at 60".  That being said, I do have a 58" Grizzly and a 66" Moosejaw.  The later is my current main squeeze.

Thanks for the recommendation. I do like the looks of Mr. Coffee’s bows. And, I agree, “best” is a very subjective term. So I changed it to “quality.”

Toelke would be my choice.
Lefties are the only ones who hold the bow in the right hand.

JT traditional archery makes a 56" takedown hybrid longbow called the Storm. I like short bows also. I have a 56" Fire Fly hybrid longbow that shoots great.

The Toelke Pika and Javaman Elkheart are hard to beat when it comes to short hybrids. They both come in 2 piece takedowns as well.

Thanks for your reply. If you had to choose between the two, what would you pick and why?

That's a choice I simply couldn't make, so I got one of each. I'm not trying to be flippant here, it's just the truth.
The grips are different but both excellent. The Elkheart has wider flatter limbs, whereas the Pika has narrower thicker limbs. The Toelke takedown is a bow bolt (which I love, it's flawless) and the Javaman gives you the choice of a bow bolt or sleeve  takedown.
Both are exceptional bows made by exceptional bowyers, you just can't go wrong with either one. Dan's lead time is currently about half of Gregg's, if that matters to you.

And I'll probably catch a little heat for this, but I shoot these bows better and more accurately than my longer bows.

JT traditional archery storm is an awesome bow. His fit and finish are second to none. Here's a picture of my son's storm in a one piece.
