I had to unload my Sling Pack prototype to measure for packaging, and I thought it might be neat to record everything I have been hauling around this fall. This isn't everything I carry, my pockets have some essentials as well. One thing missing from this pic is a spare bowstring....becasue I recently had to use it thanks to an amazingly sharp broadhead :biglaugh:
Not shown are lunch and a water bottle for all day sits. Pleanty of room in this Sling Pack!

Starting at 12:00 and going clockwise:

    Licenses
    Compass(2)
    Spare tab
Alpaca beanie from Teresa Asbell...crazy warm
    Leupold Lense Pen
    Lighters (2)
Leather gloves for dealing with briars, etc.
    Tracking tape
    Field Dressing Gloves
    Paper Towel
Paracord (I use it constantly, keep a 500 foot spool in my truck)
    Tether for safety harness
    Spare wool jacket (or vest)
    Drag rope
Tourniquet (bleeding to death a mile from your truck is a dumb way to die)
    Knives(2)
    Saw
Lights (I have 2 more in pockets, never enough lights)
    Batteries
Binoculars (It's one or the other, the compact Leupolds have been in use since 1998, the bigger ones are newer....using the big ones usually)

[/list]

Would that happen to be a Glens deer handle I see ?!  I absolutely love mine !

Good eye on the deer handle! They are great! I made the mistake of dragging out the head of a dead buck I found one time with mine and it still has a powerful odor 10 years later  :biglaugh:

Nice looking pack!

Thanks! Fred Asbell gave me that drag rope. Best thing I ever used. I am not sure if they are still made.....but I did buy a couple for my son and son in law a few years back. In fact my son Danny keeps 2 in his tracking bag. Really handy when you have a buddy to help pull.

Someday I am going to write a story about my son Danny's favorite hunting spot. He has killed some serious bucks in there...but it is the worst drag ever. The only uphill black muck swamp I have ever seen :biglaugh:

I just put an order for one of the sling packs. Can’t wait to see it and, even though deer season just closed here, I’m already thinking about deer season in 2025 and trying out the pack. Thank you!

Roger, do you know if this sling pack has basically taken the place of the canvas and wool haversacks that the Asbells used to make? I see those are pretty much out of stock on their page. thanks!

Absolutely not. The haversacks that Teresa makes are a long running product that she supports 100%

The Sling Pack is our collab0ration....Asbell Wool is making it exclusively for my Company, Traditional Woodsman.

I have used a Glenn’s deer handle ever since I seen uncle Ted use them on a video years ago. They are great.

Pack looks very nice as well.

I received my sling pack last week and it’s really nice. Thanks for getting it shipped out quickly! It looks awesome and is very well made like all Mrs. Asbell’s products. I like the wide, sturdy strap and I appreciate that the strap is long enough to go across my chest. It’s light and kind of conforms to my back, so I hardly know I’m carrying it. I took a quick hike with it over the weekend and it will definitely be my go to pack next fall. There is plenty of room to carry everything I’ll need for a day in the mountains. And I like the zippered pockets (heavy duty zippers) for keeping smaller gear easily accessible. Thanks again for offering this well thought out and well constructed pack. Highly recommended!

I will be using and photographing this pack for 3 weeks worth of LTRs. And, others will be trying it out well,  that being any attendee that would like to.
