Big Jim Thunderchild pics, reviews
« on: December 16, 2024, 04:04:19 PM »
Hey all!
Hope everybody is finishing the hunting season strong. I got the bug a week ago and ordered my first custom bow. I ordered a Big Jim Thunderchild and was curious if anybody has pictures, reviews, etc. of the Thunderchild. Any info is appreciated since I have never been through the process before. My initial thoughts are on getting a 50# @ 28", 58", bocote limbs and zircote riser.

They are great bows. I have pics somewhere but can't find them at the moment.

Zero negatives with this bow, all positives.  You're gonna love it!

It would be a shame to order that bow without the takedown option. There's not much of an upcharge for it, and the convenience will more than pay for itself over the life of the bow.

I do not own one of Jim’s bows…… but I have shot the Buff and the TC.  Awesome bows!  And as soon as you get your mitts on one,  the first thing that’ll jump out at you is the feel of the build.  Absolutely top quality rock solid overbuilt every detail executed awesomely bow!  The second observation will be that you are holding a master craftsman’s work of art.  Once you finally shoot it,  you’re done for.  Best start putting money aside for #2 now.

This is the second time I have heard this. Thanks for the feedback. I am leaning towards the takedown.

My hunting partner uses them.
He is the best shot I know , and above anything else , he chooses Big Jim's bows , for hunting his Thunderchild is his go to.

@bigjim …..  Neale does his best work with your bows😎

I have to do an unboxing video when it comes in because there is not one that I can find out there. Need all the content possible over the next 14 month wait!

I am a big advocate of the two piece bow and not just because I make them. I have built over 2k two piece bows and have had three failures that I'm aware of.. two of which made it over seven years, were heavy draw weight  and were built in the first 10 TD's I've ever done. I have made them considerably stronger since that time.
The third was a fluke and no doubt a mistake made in the shop that could happen to any bow at any time.

I waranty my two piece for the life of the bow. If your bow breaks due to the two piece connection, I will build you a bow free of charge for the life of it. I won't even do that with a one piece! Now the rest of the bow is just run of the mill...  :saywhat:
Thank you, BigJim

I love my Thunderchild. Light in my hand, fast and just a pleasure to shoot.

Beautiful bow!

I’m sold on the takedown option. I love the idea of breaking it down and throwing in a suitcase to fly to a hunt.

It’s also handy in that you can take it down and put it in your backpack to free up your hands when dragging your buck.

I got the take down off the classifieds a number of years ago,and really like the grip on this one. The other one was an insane Christmas deal Big Jim was having.
