December Doe
« on: December 24, 2024, 09:14:49 PM »
Thursday was a good morning. I had discovered this area scouting a few weeks ago.  Sign up on the ridges was just amazing.  It is extremely hard to get back there without deer knowing.  I've yet to get back there and not spook multiple deer.  Huge ridges filled with various mature white, red, and black oaks, but that is like most land around here.  Broken farms and hardwoods.  I ended up seeing 17 deer that morning. Just one buck and the rest were fawns and does. They were hammering red and black oak acorns.  Rooting around almost like hogs. This doe came by about 11:10. Last one. Pretty happy. Got her deboned for the long pack out with my trusty Widow PLX.  Simmons swamp shark made super quick work.  They're lethal anyways, but luckily made a great shot and she didn't go 15-20 yards at best.  25 yard shot. I ticked a branch the first shot with a VPA at about 15yds as she came in behind me.  She skittered to around 25 yards and look around.   She settled down and flicked her tail. I grabbed the shark tipped arrow and eased back the shot and released.  I was even also lucky to find the head as it went through the off side shoulder blade(quarrying away shot) and was hanging by the fletching.  She rolled on it and broke right above the outsert.  It was laying right there by the broken shaft!
