Not sure if anyone has ever compiled this info before, but I think it would be pretty nice to have a picture sample reference for the various wood types that are used for bow making. Riser and lamination types of decorative woods and maybe even a quick description of suitability. Ie:hardwood good for risers, must be stabilized to be useful, too brittle for riser strength but fine for lams, etc.

This could prove very helpful as a quick reference guide, although not quick at all to compile and I don’t have any of the knowledge on woods necessary to be beneficial.

Sorry if this exists and I couldn’t find it, but hey maybe I came up with a fun group project!!  :biglaugh:

Might be better if you go online and get pics and info. But that info is already out there on wood species and pics. For us to do it, the price if the wood for just a small piece for pics plus the tine to put it together. I know I can’t afford to do it. Search online for wood species and the Janka Hardness scale for info. Lots of info online for best Bow woods. Best of wishes in your endeavor.

The Bowyers Wood Bible  :shaka: It would make a fine project if someone had the time, knowledge and resources with a profit intent.

In the meantime my go to is https://www.wood-database.com/.

I mostly look at physical weight, hardness, specific gravity and modulous of elasticity. Yew,Hard Maple and natural tempered bamboo is my baseline for comparing other wood species.
