Ballistic collars
« on: February 14, 2025, 07:24:40 PM »
I have a new asl.  So I’ll likely need a dozen arrows.  I have gotten the gt trads, and the smaller gt trad classic xt’s for the other bow.   The classic xt’s come with the ballistic collar.  I like the idea of them.  I believe they maybe stronger arrows as they are heavier than their larger diameter brothers with higher gpi. The collars must add some more strength too.   But the higher gpi, a little more difficult to get higher foc.  Though I’m not sure how much I’d need. Thought I’d try these arrows with higher foc maybe.   I was going to aim for about 10 gpp.  But with higher foc.

So I thought I’d use just the gt trads.  They have 9.3 gpi with the 400 spine, but I’d like a collar for durability.    I hear if the iron will?  I don’t see collars that fit the .304 outside diameter.  Am I wrong?

I do like the gt trads. I think they’re the most realistic wood looking carbons they offer.  Just no ballistic collars for durability in the off season.

The gold tip traditional classic xt are awesome shafts. I’ve been shooting them since they came out. The ballistic collar is the key in my opinion, along with the .204 size shaft. They’re really tough, some I’ve been stump shooting with for probably 8+ years and still going strong. I shot my buck and 3 doe with the same vpa broadhead and same shaft this year, just touched up the broadhead and refletched. My brother had another pass through on his bull elk this past season with them as well. If looking for more foc you could get the regular gold tip kinetic shafts (still .204 diameter) with the ballistic collar as well. They’re the same thing just black with a much lighter gpi. Jump up a spine and throw a bunch of weight up front to get your foc if that’s what you like

The collar goes over the insert and end of shaft, it’s about 1 1/8” long. I epoxy them on when I install the inserts. I’ve never had one break or blowout/ mushroom. I do a lot of stump shooting year round.

Nice. I can say the same about my collarlessarrow dynamics and judos.

Nice to know as I'm in need of some alternative arrows for a bow that won't shoot my ADs.

I haven’t hit anything hard yet with them. I’m suprised they do def I well. They’re not tight on the shaft.  They will slide off once you take the tip off. I would have thought that would be enough to still cause the carbon to crack/expand.  But apparently they’re good.  These come on the gt trad classic xt.   Which are quite heavy gpi.  .204 or .206 ID

Big Jim has a video of him shooting the classic xt's into cinder blocks with a 67# bow. It's pretty impressive.

Yes I saw that.  Would other shafts stand up like they did?   I wonder if that’s where they’re 2-4 gpi heavier per spine weight compared to other shafts. Their heavy shafts.

11.3 gpi for the 400 spined shafts. My gt trads I thought were only 9.3 gpi for the 400s.

That what I was wondering, if there was any company that made ballistic collars for the larger shafts like the gt trads.    Thier a little lighter gpi than the classic xt’s
