Bandsaw blades

Once again I have about 15 bandsaw blades, not sharp but far from dull if anybody wants some and will pay shipping . I hate to pitch in the scrap pile.

They still cut pretty good but I need  really sharp for veneers to keep from wandering and ruining expensive wood. Flat grain osage and red elm are the worst...

Don't you have a place that will sharpen and reset them Kenny?   My 17" saw takes 133" blades , so i don't think  they wont work for me.  Kirk

To be honest... It's been too long since ive had any sharpened myself to tell you.  My old saw shop that used to do all my sharpening closed their doors years ago, and i've been buying new blades myself rather than sharpening.  i did have a shop weld a couple carbide tipped blades back together, but they didn't need sharpening... sorry... no help there.

Easy enough to do yourself with a dremel and a simple jig....hint reverse your blade first

Typically when a band saw blade starts bogging down, people think they are getting dull, but in reality its the set that gets pinched doing radius work that keeps them from cutting well any longer.  A professional saw shop not only sharpens a blade, but sets the teeth as well. Doing that by hand would be tricky even if you had the right tool for it.  They will never cut like new again once you’ve pinched the set.

Unfortunately we live in a throw away world anymore. It’s just more cost effective to buy new blades than have them sharpened.  if you can find a shop that does it anymore, the smaller blades might not be worth sharpening.

I use the old blades for cutting fiberglass they work good enough for that then toss em.

Do you use carbide tipped blades or have you tried them? I have been using the Laguna resaw king and it is truly amazing.

I had a couple Lennox Tri master(?) carbide blades but pretty good sized kerf. The Laguna are only .006 wider kerf than what I'm using so I might try one.  I can buy 4+ of what I use now for one of those, but if I didn't have to change it and tune the saw 4 times, there's that!

On regular offset blades ( when making veneers) I run the stock piece in a light pass with the jointer between each cut to have a good starting surface with the drum sander. No longer have to do that using the carbide tipped blades as they are toothed like a table saw and have a finish that is clean. I consider Wenge wood a a terrible wood to work with as it has soft and very hard interlocking grain but you made me take a break from my day to have a little fun. I eyeball set the fence and got .032. Notice how clean the saw marks are , take little effort in the drum sander to clean up. Other nice thing is with no offset or rake to get messed up, I have never had any drift. I do occasionally clean the teeth with “Blade & Bit” remover.

X2 for the Laguna carbide blades.  A bit pricy, but they last a long, long time and Laguna claims they can be re-sharpened up to 4-5 times.
