Trad friendly pronghorn outfit
« on: March 08, 2025, 08:58:25 PM »
I’m wondering if any members here have had a good experience with an outfitter who offers pronghorn hunts.  Thanks!

I have no experience with this outfitter but have heard a lot of positive things about it. Full Draw outfitters . Fred Eichler owns it and he is a traditional bow hunter

Yes, a lot of us West Virginia Bowhunters Association guys for many years have hunted on the Pronghorn Ranch near Douglas, Wyoming run by Jay and Linda Butler.  They understand the needs of traditional hunters. They operate a first-rate hunt on 18,000 acre cattle ranch. Check www.wypronghornranch.com. They have been recognized as Outfitter of the Year at a recent WVBA awards banquet.

I second the Pronghorn Ranch.  I hunted with them five years ago and had a great hunt.  Jay and Linda do a nice job, lodging is very nice, and the price is reasonable.

Dave and Jess, the website for the Pronghorn Ranch states preference points are needed to draw a tag.  Do either of you recall how many points were needed?

$2000 for a three day semi guided hunt doesn't sound very inexpensive to me !

Who said inexpensive?
Spearhead is $3000 for three days.  Others are $3500.
Inexpensive is diy on public ground.

I hunted BLM land in WY near Daniel for nothing.  I had LOTS of opportunities. I have a thread on it if you would like to read it, just let me know....

I didn't have to have any points when I hunted, otc tag. Things must have changed.

I talk with Jay often and he says you need 2 preference points in order to draw in that unit. My group is going to Pronghorn ranch in 2026.

This is the quote from Charlie Lamb....

"In the end this is what we were trying to accomplish, although the antelope buck is much further than he appears in the photo."

I have NEVER understood this pic....

That being, I weigh 190ish in this pic, so the perspective should put this Antelope at 500ish pounds!!!!

It looks like they operate in units 26 and 29. 26 can be drawn with 2 points, with roughly 40% chance with 1 point. 29 looks much more difficult to draw depending on if you are trying to get a Type 1 or Type 2 license. Type 1 you're guaranteed the tag with 6 points and have a 33% chance with 5. Type 2 you can draw with 1 point and have a 50% chance with no points. Type 2 would only be valid on private land, which it says they operate on a large cattle ranch, so you could have a decent chance at drawing your first time.
