BlackHawk Rocketeer IV Broadheads Question

Hey TragGang community,

Long time guest reader, first time new-member/poster.

I recently bought a Black Hawk Warrior 47# (LH) on ebay in great condition and it came with a quiver of arrows. the quiver was a mix of field point and broadheads. after doing some research i found that the broadheads are Rocketeer IVs (not sure how many variations they made but all are 4 blade).

Anyway, I was wondering if they would still be good to hunt with or would it be better to just keep them for display purpouses, some only have minor surface rust. I have been using 2 blade BHs for the most part.

Also to be completely transparent I'm fairly new to seriously hunting trad archery (have always enjoyed shooting trad bows but shifting into hunting with them). Any info or perspectives would be greatly appreciated.

I cant believe that no one has replied to you in 7 days.  That is not normal as we have a lot of knowledgeable people here that usually want to help, especially to help a newbie.

First...  welcome aboard...

For starters I have to admit that I dont know much about Blackhawk bows... other than the fact that they have been around for quite a while and have stood the test of time.  If your Nighthawk is solid, no delaminatios, limb twist, or other dameges; it should be safe to shoot and will probably give you many years of good service.   

As far as the broadheads go, if they seem to be intact, then they are probrbly useable for hunting... just make sure you put a super sharp edge on them before hunting with them.  Keep in mind that the broadhead is the most importand part of your bowhunting setup... the rest is just the delivery system.   Too many new bowhunters get a set of broadeads and assume the factory sharp is good enough.  Dont fall into that hole.

I wish I could provide more information but I a limited by my lack of knowlege of Blackhawk equipment, and the sparse information you have provided.  If you could post a few pictures of the bow and broadheads, it may help to get someone more knowledgeable to jump in with more info.

I appreciate the response. I will work to get some pictures up. The bows are in excellent condition, well beyond what I ever could have expected. The broad heads are intact with minor surface rust (easy to clean up) but could definitely use a good sharpening. I’ve crossbow hunted before because it was the easiest option at the time but have always wanted to go more traditional so I finally made the move. Hunting is one of the few activities I love across the board.

I have made a few other post since this one and have gotten some good responses. But I’m definitely a newbie to trad archery lol
